From the Proxy you play to the various Agents you recruit, the game’s heroes each have a one-of-a-kind appearance and the unique weapons and fighting styles to match.

A diverse approach to design makes each character’s identity, station, position and culture the backbone of their personality. And when it comes to the anthropomorphic Thiren, animal features add subtle variations to the basic human form.

Lycaon, leader of Victoria Housekeeping Co., is a Thiren with lupine attributes. Although he is a gentle soul, he has swift, powerful kicks and a wolflike nature that emerges in the face of danger.

Another Thrien Hoshimi Miyabi resembles an ordinary young girl except for a pair of furry fox ears that blend into her black hair. However, this free spirit is a Void Hunter who possesses the unique Frost attribute and is renowned for her skill with the blade.

Miyabi’s Ultimate is a perfect fit for her personality and backstory – with Lingering Snow, she accelerates, spins, draws and sheathes in one motion, unleashing a decisive and dazzling Finishing Move that deals massive damage.

In addition to learning about the characters through the main action, cut scenes and Agent Story missions, you can also learn more from animated short films on the game’s official YouTube channel.

Miyabi, for example, is a member of Hollow Special Operations Section 6 and the youngest Void Hunter in history. But why did she become an Agent? And how did she grow so powerful?

The stories told in these shorts are revisited in the game, fleshing out the characters and answering players’ questions, such as why Miyabi is so obsessed with getting stronger, or why she has such mixed feelings towards her Ethereal-Slaying Katana - Tailless.

The Zenless Zone Zero team has also produced original songs and music videos for certain characters. For example, “Stars Align” features Astra Yao and Evelyn, exploring how two lonely people became each other’s salvation.

Evelyn starts out as a spy planted as Yao’s personal bodyguard but ultimately decides to risk her own life to take Yao’s side, and scenes of them together show their deep bond.
