Who wants to see an ice rink on campus??? NAU is very close to green lighting the construction of an on campus ice rink. The NAU Fieldhouse building has several components of a rink already installed, and there are only a few things left to be done to make ice.  This could be done by next year!

The university wants to see YOUR support for this rink. It's in the student body's hands to advocate for this facility, which would bring multiple benefits to the university.  Not only would it allow for both of the schools ACHA ice hockey teams, the Ice Jacks, to play on campus, but it would also provide countless recreational benefits for all.  Public ice skating, broom ball, figure skating, intramurals, could all be possible here.  There is also interest for a Women’s Ice Hockey team which would not be possible without this new ice sheet. On top of that, many job opportunities will arise for students.

Overall, this new facility would be a no brainer for the health and wellness of the student body.  Not to mention the financial gain that could be made from this.  The Ice Jacks sell thousands of tickets a season at a much smaller capacity at Jay Lively Ice Arena... Just imagine how many tickets could be sold in the much larger Fieldhouse rink - just walking distance from residential halls and the Union! This would be a huge draw for prospective students too. Our university is falling behind in the state of Arizona. ASU just got a rink and U of A is currently building one. 

Make some noise for the construction of the NAU Fieldhouse Ice Rink!

Update 9/20/23:  Today, the university began the installation of several components of an ice rink - boards and glass. There is also sport court being installed. This is a HUGE step in the right direction!  However, the university has no intention of spending the extra money on getting zambonis and a chiller, which are really the only two large pieces remaining to make this Multi Purpose Area suitable for an ice rink. Basically, 50-75% of the components are either already in the building or are on the way.  Why won't the university just pull the trigger on the small amount we have left?
