Search Brady and Prairie Green Landfills for Missing Remains in Winnipeg

The Issue

•The Winnipeg Police refused to search the Landfills in 2022, even though they believe that the remains of Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran and Maskode Bizhiki'Ikwe are at one or both sites.

•Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada has become Canada's ground zero for MMIWG2S (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2 Spirit) cases and we need to stand together and demand that all of our Women deserve to feel safe, cared for and that nothing should get in the way of Justice.

"Canada and Manitoba are violating an international human rights treaty by failing to search a landfill for the remains of three Indigenous women, says the Feminist Alliance for International Action.

The Alliance shared documents with APTN News that showed Friday was the deadline for both governments to provide information “regarding this critical situation” imposed by the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD).

CERD warned Canada in a Dec. 8, 2023 letter it was ignoring its obligations under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

CERD said it had a responsibility to undertake the search and provide the families with closure. Refusing to remedy the situation “denies them dignity and dehumanizes the victims solely because they are Indigenous women.”

•The lack of commitment to search these areas goes against the 231 Calls For Justice as set out by the Final Report. In addition to this, we believe that the lack of searching for the remains violates the Criminal Code (R.S.C., 1985, c. C-46)

•This petition is asking that the Province of Manitoba and the Government of Canada, along side the City of Winnipeg  to assist with funding, resources and Person Power, as set out by the Feasibility study, to search these grounds. Let's demand that the red tape is cut and Politics are put aside. The faster we get these Sacred Women home the sooner the families can have healing and closure.

  • This petition will remain open until BOTH landfills are properly searched.
