Boy, are we ever excited!

October 28th commemorates Valley Sleep Center's 20-Year Anniversary. It was two decades ago that I administered my first sleep study; that day changed the trajectory for where my professional journey was taking me.

My fascination with the physiology of sleep actually began more than 30 years ago when I was a respiratory therapist and saw a patient with sleep apnea for the first time. It led me to become a sleep technologist. I remember my very first patient who woke up after a sleep study and said, โ€œWow, Iโ€™ve never dreamt before and l last night I had dreams!โ€ It was a turning point in my career.

Our culture, in general, doesnโ€™t recognize the human bodyโ€™s need for adequate sleep. I was guilty of this for years. Chronic pain has interrupted my sleep and life for as long as I can remember and I continued to ignore it.

It wasnโ€™t until my second cancer diagnosis that I found myself struggling to fall asleep and stay asleep and I knew that the lack of sleep was impacting my bodyโ€™s ability to heal. I experienced first-hand the results of having a long-running pattern of sleep loss and its effect on my health.

I know first hand how important good rest is. Sleep is when our body's cells regenerate. It's a time for healing and renewal.   My own health challenges over the years fed my desire to change lives. I'm so grateful for the past twenty years. I frequently think about where we started as a company and how far we've come. I'm thankful for every moment, every patient, and every positive outcome.

Being a business owner has its challenges. But I'm so happy to be in the business of sleep.  As we head into the holiday season, I simply want to take a moment to express my gratitude to each of you for trusting our team.  We endeavor to help you get the sleep you deserve!

Until next time - Sleep well!

Asking for your Help

To say that Barbara is one of our favorite people is an understatement. I frequently receive calls, emails, and texts about Barbara, and about what a wonderful Sleep Technologist she is. She's part of the VSC Family, and we just adore her.

Barbara was recently diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, affecting all her movements paralyzing to where she needs help to accomplish everyday activities.

If you can help in any way, there is a GoFundMe account to help for her medical expenses.

Thanks in advance for your generosity and kindness,

Lauri
