Kuwaataay 2000 Edition (CWTATB)
Overview
The Kuwaataay 2000 Edition is the New Testament in the Kwatay (Kuwaataay) language, completed in 2000 with Bible portions first published in 1997 [1][2]. Kwatay is a divergent Jola language spoken by approximately 11,000 people in southwestern Senegal’s Casamance region, in coastal villages south of the Casamance River mouth including Diembereng, Bouyouye, Nyikine, and Boukot-Diola [1][3]. The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators in partnership with Association Traduire la Bible, based in Dakar [4]. The Jola-Kwatay people practice a mix of Islam (55%), traditional religions (25%), and Christianity (20%), and the translation represents the first Scripture in this language [1]. Audio recordings of the New Testament are available through Faith Comes By Hearing and mobile apps [5].
