French Ostervald Bible

French Ostervald Bible (FRAOST)

Overview

The Ostervald Bible is a French Protestant translation of the complete Bible by Jean-Frédéric Ostervald (1663-1747), a Swiss Reformed pastor in Neuchâtel. Ostervald revised the existing Geneva Bible text to improve its literary quality and clarity, first publishing his revision in 1744. [1] The Ostervald Bible became one of the most widely used French Protestant Bibles in the 18th and 19th centuries and was frequently published by the British and Foreign Bible Society for distribution in French-speaking regions.
