iPadOS Share Sheet Downscales 6K Videos to 4K During Upload
Hello.
I am experiencing an issue with video uploads from my iPad Pro (latest iPadOS version), and I need this to be escalated to a technical specialist.
Here is the exact workflow:
I have an original 6K video file (for example 6016×3384), approximately 100–200 MB in size (e.g. 117 MB or 200 MB).
The original file is stored locally in my Photos library.
When I upload the video using:
Photos → Share → select a cloud service (Yandex Disk or Mail Cloud),
the file is automatically reduced in size during the upload process.
For example:
- Original file: ~200 MB, 6K resolution
- Uploaded file: ~10–15 MB, 4K (3840×2160)
When I download the file back from the cloud to my device, it is no longer 6K.
Its resolution is reduced to 4K and the file size is significantly smaller.
This is not a preview issue.
The downloaded file itself is physically reduced in resolution and size.
The same behavior happens with multiple cloud services, so the issue appears to originate from iPadOS during the Share process.
My requirement is:
I need to upload and transfer the original video file without any modification to resolution, bitrate, codec, or file size.
Please clarify:
- Does iPadOS automatically transcode or downscale video files when using the Share Sheet?
- Is there a way to force the system to always send the original, unmodified file?
- Is this behavior intentional system optimization, or a bug?
This issue prevents me from delivering original media files for professional work.
Thank you.
