Swipe from corner is grayed out after update

swipe from corner is grayed out. I already shut down and came back up. Seems to have happened after an update. Used to work for a screen shot/screen capture

iPad Air, iPadOS 26

Available swipe-gestures for iPadOS 26.x differ from iPadOS 18.x and earlier.

The screenshot corner-swipe gesture to which you are accustomed is available when iPadOS 26 Multitasking is configured for Full Screen Apps - but will not be available (and will be ghosted in settings) when using Windowed Apps or Stage Manager modes:

When using the Windowed Apps and Stage Manager modes, the finger-swipe screenshot trigger gesture is disabled - as this would otherwise conflict with resizing of windows from the bottom corners of the screen.

While the finger-swipe gesture is not available in these modes is not available, the equivalent Pencil gesture is still available if configured in settings:

Settings > Apple Pencil > [Pencil Gestures] >

  • Bottom Left Corner - select as required
  • Bottom Right Corner - select as required

A screenshot can also be manually triggered by simultaneously pressing the physical top button - and the volume button nearest to it. This method may require a little finger gymnastics to perfect the timing - but in absence of an Apple Pencil is quite simple once learned.

Remember, the corner-swipe gesture remains available if you select the Full Screen Apps mode.
