The first book I started and finished in November was Rainbow Grey by Laura Ellen Anderson. This was a lovely super speedy light weight middle grade. Just what I needed at the time. The illustrations were brilliant and made me really happy. The story’s hidden message was really cool about accepting who you are even if you are different, as well as your idol may not be what you expect. This is such a positive book. can’t wait for the sequel to come out early next year.
The second book I finished was one I started last month. This was 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. The subject was taboo (suicide). I’m aware there is a show and film but I’m yet to watch it. I wasn’t as impressed with it overall. Several times it didn’t feel believeable. Along-side this, she was doing this as revenge which isn’t right. There would be more people than she realised who do love her and will miss her.
The third book I finished was an audio book called The Outrage by William Hussey. This was really good, it made me realise I really like dystopian young adult. It was super informative to me. LGBT is a topic I know very little about so was great to see their thoughts and feelings. I really enjoyed it. The fear felt is so scary and how they fear for their lives at times.
I then finished What Katy Did Next by Susan Coolidge. The copy I own was very old so looks really pretty, along-side this the illustrations that had been inserted throughout were really good. It was so wholesome and sweet. The book was also super short so didn’t take long at all.
After that my next book was the sequel to a book I listened to last month. Jane Doe and The Key of all Souls by Jeremy Lachlan. I loved the continuation of the book. It was just as good.
The buddy read of Crossed by Ally Condie was the next book I finished. The character growth was really good and was very interesting. The ending had us both very frustrated. This made us eager to get to the last book. Due to the hectic of Christmas and time away we both agreed to start the final book next year.
Show Us Who You Are by Elle McNicol was a great book. I LOVED the representation of Autism and ADHD which is something I don’t know much about. The way the two children bonded was lovely. The concept of digitally creating a person without their perceived flaws was really interesting, it got me thinking about how far is too far? How much does it change the person? Do they become unrecognisable? Everyone should read this they will learn a lot. Elle has another book which I would love to read.
Freckles by Cecelia Ahern was a really fun and uplifting audiobook. The accent by the narrator made it even better. It was super relatable which did surprise me. It also made me laugh a lot. This is my first by her and I’m super excited to try the others.
In December I finished two books, the first physical the second audio.
The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher was a really enjoyable read making me feel really festive. I do want to go on adventures like that now though. It was really cool that the main character is in a wheelchair. The illustrations definately added to the story. It really did feel magial.
I also We Are Totally Normal by Rahul Kanakia. This was a good story and gave a lot of informaation about what it is like to be LGBTQIA+, before starting this I was super excited but by the end I was disapointed. It didn’t engage me as much as expected which does make me sad.
My initial goal for 2021 was 55 books which is one more than the year before. Later in the year this increased to 75. By the end of 2021 I had completed 70 books!
I hope everyone has had a good Christmas and New Year.
Take Care,
Dolphin xx
