About Me

Hello I’m Jessica (she/they)

I am a late diagnosed neurodivergent, gender affirming hair artist based in Chelsea, New York. My superpower is helping salon-shy individuals feel at ease, with genuine Minnesotan Nice and a nurturing nature. I’m approachable, accessible, and wear every hat in my business. I love taking the time to really get to know my guests and collaborating with them to create easy-to-wear, low-maintenance haircuts and colors that grow out beautifully over time.

I have advocated for gender free hair services, time-based pricing, and realistic beauty standards since I began training at the original Aveda Institute in Minneapolis as a feisty punk/goth in 1988. At 17, with my bright red Annie Lennox cropped hair, I permed and teased metalhead dudes, while protesting undercharging those with asymmetrical chromosomes, and overcharging my punk babes, who took half the time. I was annoyed that my student and employee contracts required women to wear a full face of make-up, which was not only sexist but had no equivalent for my male colleagues, who often needed at least a basic standard of hygiene since they mostly reeked of the bar from the night before.

I am a proud mom to a beautiful trans human. The most enlightening and rewarding experience I’ve had as a stylist, parent, and human was taking my son shopping and giving him his first gender-affirming haircut. Witnessing the relief and joy my son felt when he could be the person he felt, but did not know how to share, is incredibly humbling. The word “Euphoria” says it all. I consider it a privilege to witness these moments almost every day behind the chair.

Privacy is paramount in my chair; you will not find any guest photos on my social media. While I appreciate social media’s visibility and inspiration, I wonder about its cost. I would rather use the time stylists usually set aside for guest photos to troubleshoot your itchy scalp, answer follow-up questions, and curate my styling tutorial library for you.

If it’s my day off, I’ll be at the museum or walking quieter streets looking for inspiration or something new to read. I can sink into a historical hair rabbit hole faster than you can say, “I’m sorry I’m late!” At the end of the day, I hope I bring a little more beauty, ease, and joy into this world.
