Why? That makes it too easy to accidentally open the window. :(

And what happens if user double clicks?

It seems that this is a common pattern for MS own apps (like OneDriver for instance).

I tried finding article (blog entry) on the subject from a Microsoft Windows Team Member. It's a bit old but had good reasons. I knew I should have bookmarked it.

All good. Was just curious for reason behind the change. Hard to fault you when Microsoft is doing it themselves.

Personally I just wish apps would respect the "folder option" setting where you can choose between single click and double click to open an item.

Easy enough by reading "IconUnderline" registry key under:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]

If set to "3" then user choose "Single Click". If set to "2", the default, then double click setting is enabled.

That's an interesting idea, but it won't be clear for user as nobody does this.

What for single or double click, my logic is pretty simple: all default windows 10 tray icons react on a single click. If there is a UI window to show, it will be shown. And the right click always opens context menu. Proof: http://screencast.com/t/RlszRQjYep

MS does not provide design guidelines on this, so we just do the same as ms.

I agree with that as long as Adguard is the front window.

If hidden in the background a single click of the tray icon should bring the window to front.

Then if user clicks it again, then hide it.
