MARATHON NO.50; CARDIFF FOR BIPOLAR UK

We’re into the last month. And this month my focus is on an area that means so much to me, mental health charities. Millions of people live with conditions that are often invisible but deeply life-shaping. These organisations are breaking stigma, providing vital support, and reminding us all that mental health matters just as much as physical health.
My 50th marathon takes me to Cardiff for my last non English county run. This week’s run is for Bipolar UK, the national charity dedicated to supporting everyone affected by bipolar disorder.

What is the struggle?
Bipolar disorder affects over a million people in the UK, yet it’s one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions. It can bring intense highs and crushing lows that make holding down a job, maintaining relationships, or even getting through daily life incredibly difficult. Many face long waits for diagnosis, limited treatment options, and ongoing stigma. Without support, living with bipolar can feel isolating and overwhelming.

Why am I running for this cause?
Because mental health struggles are just as real as physical ones, and they deserve the same recognition and support. I’ve seen how stigma can stop people from seeking help, and how life-changing the right support can be. Running for Bipolar UK is my way of raising awareness, fighting stigma, and helping ensure no one has to face bipolar alone.

What is Bipolar UK and what do they do?
Bipolar UK is the only national charity dedicated to supporting people with bipolar. They run peer support groups, a national peer support line, mentoring schemes, and online communities that connect thousands of people. They also campaign for faster diagnosis, better treatment, and wider awareness, so those with bipolar—and their families—can live well and thrive.

Your donation directly supports people living with bipolar:
• £10 helps run peer support groups in local communities.
• £25 trains volunteer mentors who walk alongside those newly diagnosed.
• £50 keeps the peer support line available for people in crisis.
• £100 strengthens campaigns to improve awareness and services nationwide.

Please donate to Bipolar UK and help provide connection, hope, and support for those affected by bipolar disorder. For more info: www.bipolaruk.org
