When can I register for Spring 2026?

Accepted Answer

You can register as soon as your enrollment appointment window opens. Once assigned, you can find your specific day and time in Catalyst. (My Academics > My Academics > View Assigned Enrollment Time)

Question 2

My friend gets to register before me. Why is my enrollment appointment later than theirs?

Accepted Answer

Registration priority is determined by the number of semester hours you’ve already earned and will include any transfer credit awarded. It will not include hours for which you are currently registered. Priority registration is also provided for some specific student groups.

I’m stressed! What if my required classes close before I can register?!

Accepted Answer

For most programs, you are guaranteed access to some required classes. This includes core studios and lectures for students in the School of Design and lectures for students in Fine Arts. For Games & Animation and Art History, access is dependent on space availability. If your required DAAP class is full, feel free to email an advisor for next steps.

What should I do if a class is full?

If it is a required course, feel free to email an advisor. If it is a non-DAAP class for an elective, minor, or certificate, you will want to submit a Class Permission Request to try and enroll. I would recommend searching for an alternative course or section in case you aren’t given access.

Oh no! There's a block on my account. What do I do?

Accepted Answer

Most registration holds will prevent registration. If it is a financial hold (ex. Past Due Balance or Collections Hold), you will want to connect with Enrollment Services ASAP to discuss your options and next steps. A balance typically must be paid in full before you can sign up for classes. If it is a DAAP Advising Registration Block, you will need to schedule a meeting with me before you are able to sign up for classes. If you have questions about other holds on your account, feel free to email an advisor.

How do I know what classes to take?

You will want to review your degree audit in Catalyst to see your required classes and make sure you’re staying on track with elective completion! Students in the School of Design will also receive emails from SOD with registration rules (ex. same section).

What’s the difference between required classes and electives?

Accepted Answer

Required classes are courses you must take to fulfill your degree, including general education and major-specific requirements. Electives are courses you choose based on your interests or to explore subjects outside your major. They are still mandatory for graduation.

How do I find out if a class is offered online or in-person?

When you search for a class in Catalyst, make sure to check the Instruction Method. The course will either say In Person, Partially/Mostly DL (hybrid), or 100% Online.

What does asynchronous mean?

Accepted Answer

If a class has Asynchronous listed under Days & Times, it means it is an online class where students learn on their own schedule without live sessions, accessing materials and completing assignments by set deadlines. Asynchronous classes offer flexibility but require strong time management and self-discipline.

Do I need to meet with my advisor before registering?

Accepted Answer

If this is your first semester in your major, you will be required to meet with your advisor before signing up for classes. Make sure to schedule your appointment on your registration day or as close to it as possible. For non-first year students, you are not required to meet with an advisor unless you have an advising registration hold on your account.

Where do I register for classes?

I'm having trouble enrolling. Can you do it for me?

Accepted Answer

Academic advisors do not have the ability to enroll you in classes. While we can help you along the way, you will need to register yourself. If it is a technical issue, we recommend connecting with UC IT.

What do I do if I get an error message during registration?

Accepted Answer

Read through the error message thoroughly and then reach out to an advisor if you need help (make sure to send screenshots!)

Can I use my phone to register, or do I need a computer?

Accepted Answer

While it is easiest to use your computer, you can use your phone if you are having issues with Catalyst (especially if it keeps logging you out).

Can I take a class pass/fail?

Please check the DAAP Undergraduate Student Handbook for the DAAP Pass/Fail policy and eligibility. If you meet the requirements, feel free to connect with your academic advisor for approval and next steps.

How do I schedule an advising appointment?

If you need to meet with an advisor while I am away, feel free to call our DAAP Student Affairs office at 513-556-1376 (open M-F 8AM-4:30PM) for help scheduling. Otherwise you can use My Bearcat Network to set up a meeting with me when I get back.

What should I bring to my advising meeting?

For a successful and productive meeting, be sure to bring your laptop (make sure it’s charged!), something for taking notes, and a list of questions.

Can my advisor help me plan for co-op or study abroad?

Accepted Answer

For co-op, you will need to consult your co-op advisor rather than your academic advisor. For study abroad, your academic advisor can assist with general questions but you will also want to talk with the Study Abroad office directly.

How do I check if I’m on track to graduate?

To check your progress towards graduation, you will need to review your degree audit in Catalyst.

I’m thinking about changing my major. What should I do?

If you are considering switching your major outside of DAAP, you will want to meet with an advisor in the Transition Advising Center. They can talk with you about your options, help you run a what-if report, etc. Make sure to keep your DAAP advisor updated throughout the process so we can support you along the way.

Can I take a semester off?

For most of our majors, it is not possible to take time off without impacting your graduation timeline. If you are going through something that requires you step away from classes, please talk with an academic advisor about resources, options, and a potential revised degree plan.

How do I transfer credits from another school?

Accepted Answer

You will need to request an official transcript from the other institution and have it sent directly from them to UC for processing. Transcripts will need to be sent electronically, typically through platforms such as National Clearinghouse or Parchment.

I never sent in my AP score. How can I make sure I receive credit?

You will need to request your scores from the AP College Board and have them sent directly to UC for processing.

Question 24

I’m thinking about studying abroad. What should I do?

You can start off by attending a Study Abroad Info Session with UC International/Study Abroad. Please note that if you are considering a full academic semester abroad, there is a specific semester you can be away from DAAP.

Question 25

What’s the difference between a minor and certificate?

Accepted Answer

The biggest difference is that anyone can pursue a certificate, but minors are only for individuals pursuing an undergraduate degree.
