FungiSight is the site to share your fungi sightings with some Australasian mycologists doing research! Fungi pop up like magic so we need keen eyes on the ground to help us know where and when to go collecting. This page collects observations in Australasia as they pop up to enable scientific study of: Agaricus; Macrolepiota and Chlorophyllum; Paxillus and Austropaxillus; Lactarius and Multifurca; various "blushing" Amanitas, and specific species Amanita phalloides and A. marmorata. www.facebook.com/fungisight

Fungi expert issues stark warning for those foraging mushrooms
A fungi expert has issued a stark warning to those who forage mushrooms. It comes after three people died in Leongatha after eating poisonous wild mushrooms, with a fourth person fighting for life in hospital. PhD student in the field of mycology (the study of fungi) at Melbourne University, Grace Boxshall, says there’s “always going […]

My master’s research investigated the toxicity variation in southern Australian yellow-staining Agaricus in a phylogenetic context, and employed quantitative chemical analyses (GC-MS), targeted amplicon sequencing and phylogenetic techniques. I’m currently studying a PhD investigating eastern Australasian Agaricus biodiversity in a phylogenetic context. I’m keen to examine the relationships between Australian and New Zealand Agaricus, and how they relate to Agaricus globally.

After 20 yrs in the Plant Sciences & Biodiversity group at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria I have moved to the State Herbarium of South Australia (2020). I mostly do research on the Taxonomy, Systematics, and Ecology of macrofungi. Current projects include MycoDet-a taxonomic workflow, 'truffle-like fungi of Australia', 'Fungal Barcode project (MEL)', 'poisonous fungi exposures', and 'Diversity & systematics of eastern Oz Agaricus'. Science communication is another interest.
