Artist Statement
Scarlett Simmons is a multimedia artist based in Leeds whose practice operates on the belief that to create is to resist. Working across stop-motion animation and sculpture with distinctive layering techniques, Simmons confronts contemporary fascism while exploring identity and authentic self-expression. She transforms hate speech into Dadaist visual poetry, creating aesthetically compelling compositions that challenge viewers to move beyond media distractions and confront fundamental questions about themselves. Drawing from McLuhan's "The Medium is the Message," her spontaneous, transparent process invites viewers to experience her emotional landscape while inspiring their own journey of self-discovery. Her work stands as a testament to artistic resistance in an increasingly complex world.
