Art on a Postcard 2021 Boxset of 85 Cards

10 Giclée Prints on Hahnemühle Pearl (6 inches x 4 inches) presented in an archival box with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Art on a Postcard (AOAP) is excited to release its first series of beautifully produced photography boxsets. The boxsets each contain 10 limited edition prints on museum quality photographic paper and a signed certificate of authenticity. Art on a Postcard is committed to making fine art available to enthusiasts at affordable prices. Each box set is priced at £250 each with 50% of proceeds going to The Hepatitis C Trust and 50% to the photographer. Miles Aldridge rose to prominence in the mid-nineties with his arresting, highly stylised photographs with references to film noir, art history and pop culture. An acclaimed colourist, he renders elaborate mise-en-scènes in a palette of vibrant acidic hues. These glamorous, frequently eroticised images probe society’s idealised notions of domestic bliss where sinister undercurrents swirl beneath a flawless surface. Aldridge has worked prolifically for more than twenty-five years, and today he remains one of the few photographers still shooting predominately on film. His creative output encompasses large-scale c-type prints, Polaroids, screenprints, photogravures and drawings. Born in London in 1964, the son of famed art director and illustrator Alan Aldridge, his interest in photography began at an early age when he was given a Nikon F camera by his father. He went on to study graphic design at Central Saint Martins, graduating with a BA in 1987. Aldridge initially worked as an illustrator and music video director, before turning his attention to photography. In 1996 he began working with Franca Sozzani, the legendary editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia, and their boundary-pushing collaboration would continue for twenty years. In addition to the many international editions of Vogue, Aldridge’s images have featured regularly in prestigious titles including Harper’s Bazaar, Numéro, W, The New York Times Magazine and The New Yorker. Aldridge develops each new photographic narrative by rendering his initial thoughts in ink or pencil sketches with washes of watercolour and pastel. These drawings and storyboards are an essential early stage in his creative process. He believes that ‘fiction and theatricality can be more truthful than documenting reality’ and translates his sketches into meticulously arranged compositions to create images reminiscent of film stills: frames snatched from a broader story. Aldridge notes that many of his favourite moments in cinema are, as he describes, ‘closeups of a woman’s face thinking’, and he shares Hitchcock’s ability to create powerful moments of suspense, turning viewers into voyeurs. In Aldridge’s Chromo Thriller (2012) there is a palpable resonance with David Lynch’s neo-noir mystery Blue Velvet, where immaculate façades hide darkly strange stories. As one author has noted: ‘Aldridge’s female protagonists recall the glamour and splendour of Isabella Rossellini’s character whilst at the same time remaining suggestive of something more sinister.’

Born in New York and brought up in Devon, Borden studied photography at Plymouth College of Art and Design (1985-7). He moved to London shortly afterwards, where he worked as an assistant for Lester Bookbinder. He received his first commission from The Observer in 1994. Borden's profile began to grow as his portraits appeared regularly in this and other Sunday supplements, Harpers & Queen, Vogue and The New Yorker. He was awarded at the National Portrait Gallery Kobal Photographic Portrait Prize (1998 and 2000).

Julia Fullerton-Batten is a fine-art photographer renowned for her highly cinematic visual story-telling. Her large-scale projects are based around specific themes. Each image in the project embellishes her subject matter in a series of thought-provoking narrative ‘stories’ using staged tableaux and sophisticated lighting techniques. Julia’s use of unusual locations, highly creative settings, street-cast models, accented with cinematic lighting are hallmarks of her style. She insinuates visual tensions in her images and imbues them with a mystique that teases the viewer into continually re-examining the picture; something new coming to the fore each time. Her fine-art work is globally renowned and exhibited. She has won countless awards worldwide, is frequently portrayed in photographic journals, has published two books, is a Hasselblad Ambassador and a frequent speaker at international workshops and a juror of international competitions. Her images are on the front covers of ‘A Guide to Collecting Contemporary Photography’. She has a permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery, Musee de l’Elysee, Lausanne and the Parliamentary Art Collection, Houses of Parliament.

Ade Adekola is a Nigerian-born contemporary artist. His images pose questions about shifting culture, migration, and globalization. His early years were spent tinkering with cameras and electronics. He obtained a degree in architecture, in the early 90’s specializing in the design of responsive building systems. International acclaim for his responsive designs in the 90’s led to exhibitions of his artistic productions. Ade went on to study management leading to a career as a management consultant with a specialization in transformation and innovation. He spent several years in Silicon Valley where he witnessed the digital transformation of photography. At this juncture Ade started to explore the transformative power offered by innovations in photography. His enthusiasm was captured, and his experimental practice was born. Many of his works of this period were prescient of post internet photography and glitch art movements. Moving back to Nigeria in 2005 his creative emphasis shifted; he started to create images that reframe and redefine the Nigerian Cultural narrative. His art is driven by his interest in cultural preservation, cultural transformation, perception, color, movement, and innovation for Africa. He makes art that is relevant or derivative of the issues facing its society. Ade views art as a system of changing the perception and minds of his viewers. In a society, yawning for change (shifts in perceptions, perspectives and paradigms) his images are timely in elevating African Contemporary photography. His works are optical inventions that explore new processes of image making. He uses digital tools as his locus of creation where the computer becomes his studio. Typically, he emphasizes vibrant and electrifying colours. Color takes on a materialness and helps to render context in his multichannel and layered images. It provides the references needed to ground the viewer’s perception. Ade uses color as a visual reference that allows the viewer to enter the realm of the unfamiliar through harmony, congruency and balance. Ade is best described as an experimental photographer. Experimental photography offers alternate forms of representations that break with classical interpretations. It shifts photography towards a more pliable medium (like say, music or literature). In the last few years, he has redirected his practice to creating contemporary representations from traditional and urban Nigerian culture. He creates, for example, new expressions of traditional textiles, glittering gemstone photo mosaics from ethnographic images, large scale photomontages of urban dwellers, iconic blur images of festivals and optical kinetic pieces from urban photograms. He works in series, where each has its own visual language. He works with technology that provides the means to alter and enhance existing colour ranges (through the modulation of contrast, iridescence, gradients, and shadow). This allows him to produce alternative visual possibilities with atmospheric qualities. Ade’s “Transformations” are magnificent objects for sustained contemplation. When hung in groupings, they produce an array of unusual and striking combinations. They are as commanding as visual expressions as they are statements which allow the connoisseurship of contemporary photography to thrive. His oeuvre questions how we perceive and define the medium of photography. Ade lives in Lagos. He trained as an Architect at the Architectural Association London. He has exhibited as a conceptual artist since 1992 and has actively documented culture in the mega city of Lagos since 2005.
