Chai Lai Orchid Eco Lodge and Cafe

My fiancée and I had an absolutely amazing time at the elephant sanctuary! It was my second visit, and it somehow managed to be even better than the first. Our guide, Sayan, was incredible — attentive, friendly, and full of knowledge about the elephants and their stories. He made the entire experience fun, lighthearted, and educational, while also taking tons of great photos for us so we could just relax and enjoy the moment.

We left with huge smiles and unforgettable memories. You can tell the elephants are well cared for, and the staff genuinely love what they do. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Chiang Mai — and if you can, ask for Sayan!

An amazing experience in Chiang Mai!
The sanctuary is well designed, providing basic but thoughtful accomodation. The breakfast is one of the best I’ve had and the staff are exceptional. We did the full day jungle expedition with Chat and had an amazing time. Getting close and personal with the elephants in a respectful way was such a unique experience. We stayed two nights which is the perfect amount of time here. Enjoying the elephant happy hour was a bonus, as it’s another chance to interact with the elephants. Would absolutely recommend this hotel and the day tours.

Just the most incredible, inspiring time. We did so much research into different sanctuaries before travelling and chose Chai Lai Orchid due to its ethica approach with the elephants and other wildlife. The view is just something to behold from the cafe at the top.
We stayed for two nights in the Riverside Huts - a three minute shuttle ride away from the cafe. The huts are stunning, a beautiful base to just sit and admire the beauty of the Thai jungle. The huts are well equipped with everything you would need for a few days.
We chose to go on the half day trip where we learnt so much about the elephants here, their care and how the Mahouts look after their own elephants 🐘. We had the absolute dream to be able to feed the elephants, make their daily medicine and bathe with them.
If anyone is looking at an ethical stay with elephants whilst in the Chiang Mai- I would wholeheartedly recommend Chai Lai.

🌿 A Piece of My Heart Will Always Stay at Chai Lai Orchid 🌿

There are truly no words big enough to describe what Chai Lai means to me. From the moment we arrived, I felt surrounded by love, peace, and the kind of beauty that touches your heart in quiet ways.

The accommodation, food, and location were all beyond 10/10 — every meal was delicious, every sunrise felt sacred, and the sounds of elephants nearby were like something out of a dream. But what made this place so unforgettable wasn’t just the view — it was the people.

Sorn, our guide, brought so much laughter and warmth into our days. He made us feel safe, seen, and connected to the land in such a real way. Chelsea, one of the village ladies, stole our hearts with her kindness and cheeky humour — she even helped deliver a gift for Sorn on my last day when I couldn’t give it to him myself 🥹.

And then there was Tup and Sayan (hope I’m spelling that right)— two of the most genuine, gentle souls you’ll ever meet. Their presence just made everything calmer and sweeter.

The Ginger Homestay ladies were angels in disguise. When my bank locked me out and I was sitting there crying, they gave me their personal phone and comforted me like I was one of their own. That moment told me everything about the heart of this place.

And the elephants… the bond between them and their mahouts is something I’ll never forget. You can feel the love — it’s deep, respectful, and pure. Watching them together feels like watching family.

Chai Lai Orchid isn’t just somewhere you stay — it’s somewhere you feel. You arrive as a visitor but leave with family, and a piece of your heart forever left behind. 🐘💛
