*RSVP is only for entry, and does not sign you up for the open mic* The legendary open mic + mentorship program started by MURS comes back to Chicago! Rappers who sign up are picked out of a hat to come on stage and rap for up to 5 minutes - anyone who performs can sign up for a 30 minute one-on-one mentorship session with MURS the next day. Sign ups begin at 5pm, and the event starts at 6pm. This month, our featured artist is Oswin Benjamin from New York! All Groundwaves events are free and open to the public - food will be provided! *RSVP is only for entry, and does not sign you up for the open aux* Skywaves is an opportunity for producers to hear their music on a loud sound system and share their beats for up to 10 minutes on stage. Bring a device that can plug into the aux (phone, laptop, MPC/SP404, etc) and let us hear what you’ve been working on - sign ups begin at 5pm, event starts at 6pm. Rappers can join the cypher off stage and connect with local producers to collaborate. This event will be streamed on Twitch and broadcast on Lumpen Radio, giving producers another way for their music to be heard in the community. This month, our featured artist will be The Twilite Tone from Chicago! All Groundwaves events are free and open to the public - food will be provided! This event is supported by Good Chaos.

Friday Fun - every month, Groundwaves will host a different activity on Friday night to bring community together and try something new. This month, we will be hosting an intro to ceramics class at a pottery studio on the South Side in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood (address will be sent to attendees before the event). Join us from 5-6pm for conversation and dinner - ceramics class will be from 6-8pm. Space is limited so RSVP is required - please only RSVP if you are able to attend! Groundwaves Generations is an event for the hip-hop community in Chicago to come together with their families for a day of food, activities, games and music. So much of the work we do happens at night, in a club or studio, and our families might never meet the people we work or spend time with. This event is for people from 88 to 8 months old to come together and dance, play, create and build community. This month, we have a special footwork workshop with Mike D Chicago, and a performance from Zion Ali! All Groundwaves events are free and open to the public - food will be provided!
