UNO Partners with The 18th Ward to Provide Facilities for Youth Sports | The University of New Orleans
Across the University of New Orleans campus, some of the youngest members of the community are finding a place to play.For many families, accessible youth sports can be difficult to find. Through a partnership between the University of New Orleans and nonprofit The 18th Ward, youth sports programming is bringing children and families onto campus recreation spaces, creating new opportunities for local kids to learn the fundamentals of athletics, build friendships and gain confidence through play.

Spring 2026 “Jazz at the Sandbar” Series Performers Announced | The University of New Orleans
Jazz at the Sandbar returns this spring, continuing a celebrated tradition that has connected students with world-class jazz artists for more than three decades.The Spring 2026 series opens Wednesday, March 11, and will be held at 7 p.m. in the 410 Lounge on the fourth floor of the Earl K. Long Library. Presented by Jazz Studies at LSU New Orleans, the weekly Wednesday performances pair internationally recognized musicians with jazz students for live collaborative performances in an intimate setting.

Frederick W. Thorne, III (Fred), a graduate from LSUNO’s inaugural 1962 class, was recently recognized by the Cedarburg Artists Guild in Wisconsin with an Honorable Mention 2D in their Annual Juried Exhibit. This latest Mention is for his photograph entitled “Sandhill at Villa Grove Park.”

With detailed rules about punctuation, abbreviation and text formatting for citations, it can take more time to format correctly than to write the paper. UNO Survey Research Center Releases Findings on 2025 New Orleans Mayoral Election | The University of New Orleans
The University of New Orleans Survey Research Center (SRC) has released the results of a live-interviewer telephone survey of likely voters in Orleans Parish conducted September 20–24, 2025. A total of 409 randomly selected respondents participated. The combined landline and cell phone sample was weighted to reflect the gender, age, race, and council district parameters of the Orleans Parish voter file obtained from the Louisiana Secretary of State.

UNO Researchers Use Extended Reality to Assist Infrastructure Inspections
A new research project at the University of New Orleans is exploring how augmented reality can improve the accuracy and efficiency of civil infrastructure inspections. Supported by the Louisiana Transportation Research Center, the study integrates extended reality (XR) technologies with machine learning and computer vision to assist inspectors in evaluating structural conditions in real time.

Mario DeLuca started his company DeLuca Technologies one year after Hurricane Katrina hit. Since then, he has seen incredible success, including having his latest venture showcased by Microsoft in a global customer success story. DeLuca partnered with local entrepreneur and founder of Doggie Bus Troy Bergeron, to make the “Uber for Dogs” app. However, this success did not happen overnight. DeLuca has had a love for programming since 6th grade.

UNO Awarded Grant to Launch Food Waste Reduction Pilot Project
The University of New Orleans has received a grant from the Greater New Orleans Foundation to pilot a sustainability initiative aimed at reducing food waste through composting and community gardening. The award will support a project titled "Lowering Food Waste Through Gardening" and will run from May 1 through October 31, 2025.

UNO’s Debra Karhson Named CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar
Debra Karhson, assistant professor of psychology at the University of New Orleans, has been named a 2025–2027 CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar. She is one of only 12 early-career researchers worldwide selected for the program’s tenth cohort, which supports rising academic leaders tackling complex global challenges through interdisciplinary research.

The University of New Orleans Garden Club has been awarded a grant through the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund for its student-led project, “Lowering Food Waste Through Gardening.” The initiative was selected as part of a citywide effort to support youth-designed climate action projects, in partnership with the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

The event marked the culmination of the CSCI 4675: Advanced Game Development course taught by computer science professor Ben Samuel, as well as the culmination of the game development concentration.
