Yuusha Party wo Tsuihou sareta Shiromadoushi, S-Rank Boukensha ni Hirowareru: Kono Shiromadoushi ga Kikakugai Sugiru

I just binged two "banished" shows, this one, and "The Healer Who Was Banished From His Party".
The latter was HORRIBLE, absolutely unwatchable.
This one is ok.
Probably it deserves a 5 but I give it a 6, one extra point for being one of the few acceptably good modern fantasy around, particularly in the banished trope.

It starts quite well and I was actually quite excited. While most banished stories start with the banishment, this one offers a look on his training since childhood with a legendary adventurer of the party that defeated the demon lord (at a high price, by which the MC, back then a kid, ... was also negatively affected).
Although it was barely one episode and there already were signs of a rather superficial writing, it felt much more articulate and enticing than the other one about the healer.
The banishing part was formulaic, almost 100% copy pasted from the many similar stories (anime and manga).
But it worked. I liked that there wasn't the typical emotional manipulation where the banishing party acts in a very over the top hateful way so that the audience can pity the MC.

Pretty soon the MC finds the new party, of course everybody is super cool and nice. Naive but ok, it works because the characters are likeable.
And of course there's the typical dynamic of "wow, you are so strong!", "me? strong? the other party said I am useless", etc etc.
By the book. As said, very formulaic, but it didn't disturb me.
Also, I appreciated that in the training arc at the beginning the writer created a justification for this aspect of the trope: the teacher had placed some sort of spell on him, to make him less arrogant. She did it because she had regrets about losses caused by her own arrogant self-confidence.
It worked a bit too well, he's almost annoyingly humble and self-doubting.
But this gets better around the half of the season, the more he gets comfortable with his "found family".
I can't spoil the rest of the story but it's nothing life-changing.
Expect a formulaic show that delivers what it promises: a feel-good "from alienated to loved" fantasy story.
Nothing excels, but it's good enough for a pleasant binge.

I feel very mixed on this anime. I enjoyed it but I found it to be quite mid for the most part which I know every show can't be a banger but S Rank Adventurer is another fantasy anime that does what most do in its genre

The plot follows Lloyd, a white mage who's kicked from the hero's party for being "useless" but in reality he's a strong support mage. So he gets recruited by an S rank party because they desperately needed a white mage and they realize he's actually overpowered and the Hero was so full of himself that he didn't understand Lloyd ... is actually strong. However, because he's been told so many times how useless he is, Lloyd has major self esteem issues.

It's a plot that's been used quite a lot. Kicked from the party but is actually OP. It's nothing new and they're a dime a dozen. Scooped Up by an S-Rank Adventurer is a decent watch if you want something to just watch and you're not looking for anything too crazy and you want something that isn't too fast pace. Lloyd, despite him being overpowered isn't like more MCs who has a massive ego, but I found him to be a bit annoying at first. I have my reasons.

My reasons stem from: for at least the first 5-6 episodes he's constantly having self esteem issues. Despite his party constantly telling him how amazing he is and how strong his magic is. Every single time he gets a compliment he goes "I'm not strong, that's just amateur and I'm worthless" it gets old real quick. I already found it to be a slow start to the show and with how much he kept putting himself down it really wore thin after a while. All this because one person told him he wasn't good enough.

The rest of the anime is just fine at best. I found the S rank party to be really likable. I found the dub to be a bit hit and miss though. Yui's voice especially just wasn't it. Animation is fine and story is fine. I would recommend the watch, but I wouldn't recommend going into it with a critical mindset because that's when you will be disappointed because this show really is just fine at best.

Plot: 7/10 because it really has potential, especially in terms of world-building and character development (I mean all the characters, not just the MC). The ending feels kind of rushed and is jam-packed with major plot twists that could’ve been slowly introduced in earlier episodes. Instead, the show spends 11 episodes focusing on everyone trying to boost the MC’s self-confidence because it’s so low that even he can’t fix it on his own.

Animation: 4/10. Most of the time it feels like I’m watching slides or a PowerPoint presentation—especially during Yui’s fight scenes and anything that requires more movement like running, punching, kicking, hacking, and slashing. ... Mage battles are clearly easier to animate: just have them stand still, raise their arms or staff, then add a slideshow of magic circles and elemental effects.

All in all: I’d rate this anime a 4/10.
