TEAM-BASED CARE APPROACH
Orchard Place uses a proven Team-Based Care model that focuses on helping young people with support from their families and community. This model combines existing community services with creative methods that wrap around each child’s needs. The care is personalized, flexible, and takes into account the child’s past experiences. Orchard Place also makes sure that everyone—staff, youth, and families—feels safe and supported. This approach is designed to be responsive, individualized, and strong in the face of challenges.

OUR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES
Therapy
Outpatient therapy is a mental health service that supports children and families early on or helps prevent challenges from becoming more serious. Families often choose outpatient therapy when they feel their child needs extra support or when concerns are difficult to manage on their own. Orchard Place’s outpatient therapy services include School-Based Therapy, Early Childhood Services, and Center-Based Therapy.

Behavioral Health Intervention Services
Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) is an in-home program that helps children manage their behaviors at home and in the community. BHIS is a voluntary service which requires a clinical referral.
Residential Treatment – PMIC
The Orchard Place Residential Campus provides intensive mental health care for children who need a higher level of support. Youth and families come from across Iowa, often following psychiatric hospitalization or other forms of treatment. Referred youth require increased mental health support, close medical oversight, and a safe, structured therapeutic environment.

Psychiatric Services
The Orchard Place Child & Adolescent Psychiatric team provides a range of services, including comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, referrals for specialized therapy, and assistance in clarifying diagnoses. Psychiatric services may also involve recommendations for medication management when appropriate. Families can access psychiatric evaluations without the need for a special referral, although therapists or other healthcare providers may suggest one if needed.

Substance Use Services
Substance Use Services is an outpatient program for Iowa youth under 18 who are affected by alcohol or drug use. The program helps teens deal with problems in their family, friends, school, and community caused by substance use.

Psychological Testing
Psychological testing is a specialty service offered by a child clinical psychologist on a limited basis. Psychological testing occurs with a parent or provider referral. The purpose is to give diagnosis clarification and assist in giving a deeper understanding of a child or adolescent’s concerns and treatment needs. This testing can help with problems like learning challenges, emotional concerns, and autism. ID Waiver testing is given priority to meet required deadlines.
System of Care
System of Care (SOC) is a team approach to supporting and serving children and youth with mental health diagnosis. This program serves youth through age 18 who live in Polk or Warren Counties who have Hawk-I, private or no insurance. The System of Care focuses on the strengths of the child, the family, and the community they live in. Every youth served will be surrounded by a support team that is made up of individuals of their choice. The goal of the System of Care is to coordinate services and supports to help the youth remain or transition back successfully in the home and community. System of Care collaborates with and will assist to bring together all of the formal and informal supports surrounding a family. A care team will work with the family to understand their needs and set goals that work well for them.
Juvenile Court Contracted Programs
Latino Outreach and Target Supervision Program (LOTS), Early Services Project (ESP), and Community Service Learning (CSL) and Functional Family Therapy (FFT) are Orchard Place programs that serve youth who are involved with Polk County Juvenile Court.
LOTS staff are bi-lingual and provide culturally sensitive programming and case management for youth and families.
ESP provides supervision and case management for court involved youth 12 and under.
CSL provides supervised opportunities for youth to complete community service or structured diversion programming to meet the terms of their probation.
Orchard Place further has a program at the West Des Moines Schools – Walnut Creek Campus, providing case manager work with youth and families to provide support to address barriers so youth can successfully participate in their academic setting.
FFT is a short-term evidence-based model specifically designed to help at-risk adolescents (11-18) and their families reduce their likelihood of re-entry into JCS or HHS by focusing on to build skill sets that strengthen families.
Child Care Resource & Referral
Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) of Central Iowa is a program to support quality child care throughout the state of Iowa. With the first 2,000 days being the most critical of the human cycle, the goal is to help young children get off to the right start. Child Care Consultants provide on-site consultation and support around quality and regulation to licensed preschools, centers, nonregistered home providers and Child Development Home providers. CCR&R is available to assist families in locating child care programs that may best meet the needs of a child and their family. Orchard Place is contracted by the Department of Health and Human Services to provide CCR&R services to 21 counties in Central Iowa.
