A word from the Author

Isn't it frustrating that after breast augmentation, you have to spend a few weeks feeling swollen, itchy and sore? I know the feeling, so I wrote this book to help people going through the same thing. Plastic surgery recovery is mostly about self-care: caring for your face - with lots of rest, icing and protecting it from the sun; common sense advice like drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding alcohol - but also caring for your mental health by managing stress levels, which can be just as important.

And it's not just liposuctions that you have to recover from – a breast lift or a tummy tuck will also require time out to get better. Recovery is a time of vulnerability, where your body and mental health are not at their strongest. That's why it's important to manage stress levels, eat well and look after yourself generally.

This book is a step-by-step guide that will take you through the entire process. From finding the right doctor, to choosing the right surgery and after care - as well as what to do to ensure a speedy recovery. You'll find expert tips from plastic surgeons who've made these recoveries hundreds of times, and you'll also learn about modern innovations that will help make your recovery easier than ever before!

I'm writing this book for three reasons. Firstly, I want people to have the best possible recovery after surgery - but also, I want them to feel like they're partners in their own healing process. I want people to be aware of what's happening, and why, so that they can take the best possible decisions for themselves. Secondly, I want people to have the confidence to change their bodies - both psychologically and physically - by learning how life-changing surgery can be, and how to make the right choices for themselves. Finally, I want to make sure that people have a good understanding of what the process of surgery and recovery are like, so that they can have strong opinions about the best options - and also gauge their own expectations realistically.

I've spent years researching surgery, training and recovery in order to write this book. It's not just a simple list of facts; I've made sure it's a complete and practical guide that will take you through the entire process. I hope you enjoy it, and that it helps you have the best possible recovery after surgery.

Who is this book for?

This book is for people who are considering surgery and want to know more about recovery, why it's important and how to get the best results. It is also for people who have had surgery and need to recover, both physically and mentally.

This book is for:

1. Patients

By reading this book, you will understand what to expect during plastic surgery recovery and be better informed about your decision. From the moment you're under the knife to the moment you feel like yourself again, this book will help you through it. You'll learn why recovery is important, when you can go back to work and what you can expect while recovering and in the days that follow.

It's not just about recovery though; it's also about self-care, eating well and looking after your mental health while you recover.

2. Caregivers

I have included tips and strategies for carers who need to help their patient get back on their feet after surgery. You will learn how to manage the patient's mental health and help them recover as quickly as possible. Nurses , caretakers and loved ones of patients will also find it useful to know what recovery looks like.

3. Healthcare providers

Doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers will learn how to manage the patient's physical and mental health during recovery. You will also learn about common complications, their causes and how to avoid them. This book has been designed for healthcare professionals who want to increase their understanding of recovery beyond the clinical side of it - and also want to learn more about recent innovations that can make recovery easier than ever before!

4. Families

You're the support system for the patient, and this book will help you understand them better. You're also part of their recovery too! Knowing what to expect from your loved one will help you cope with the situation, and make it easier for them to recover. You'll also learn about common psychological and emotional issues that occur after surgery - and practical strategies to help the patient heal.

At a time where your loved one might be at their weakest, you can be their strength. Recovery is hard, but with the right support around them they will bounce back quickly.

5. The Curious

You're not necessarily planning surgery yet - but you have an open mind and want to learn more about it! This book is perfectly suited for those who are interested in learning what life-changing surgery entails - whether that's from a patients or caregivers perspective. By educating yourself on the process, you'll find it easier to make an informed choice about the right procedure for your body, as well as know what to expect during and after each stage of the process.

Learning about surgery and recovery doesn't mean you'll be ready to make a decision tomorrow - but you'll be better prepared when the time comes.
