Alicia Ngiam is a psychology graduate with extensive research in the meaning of life and neuroplasticity. The first Chief Happiness Officer in Malaysia, much of her work has been based on expanding brain growth in the scientific pursuit of happiness.
Having survived trauma herself, she has since devoted her time to helping people experience post-traumatic growth by guiding them towards meaning in their lives. Feelings of stuckness usually follow those who have had experienced a traumatic past. Trauma victims carry the assumption that their past defines them. This creates a perpetual mental block and feelings of shame and guilt due to the fact that they think they are unable to live a “normal” life. They face isolation. Bullying. Fears. Suicidal tendencies. Depression. Substance abuse. Nevertheless, the great news is that it is possible to live in the present and grow and flourish to one’s best potential.
Alicia has been on her knees several times in her life, and each time, she has had to learn to start to walk again. An accident when she was twelve destroyed her lung and spleen and made her temporarily lost her voice. She came from a poor family, and as she grew up, she had to face abuse almost everyday, until she left her home at the age of 22.
In spite of all that had happened, she managed to pay up her university on her own, finally graduating with a degree in psychology. Her research on Light Deprivation and Its Effects has been published in Germany, and her first book Spirit of Sparta was published on Amazon. She also manages an online activity booking platform as well, all in the name of spreading the fundamental truth of resilience and positive psychology.
