PEARL is a high level procedural programming language, which was especially designed for the demanding need to have an expressive and comfortable language for solving multitasking problems when controlling technincal processes. PEARL is an abbreviation for "(P)rocess and (E)xperiment (A)utomation (R)ealtime (L)anguage". It was designed around 1975 at the IRT Institute of the Leibniz University in Hannover with the idea in mind to have an easy to learn programming language for realtime problems. For more, also historical information please visit (http://www.pearl90.de/). In 1998 PEARL-90 was standardized by the Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V. in DIN 66253-2. PEARL provides the standard data types and structures known from other procedural languages like e.g. PASCAL. Additionally PEARL brings special language constructs for managing real-time and multitasking tasks.

Mops is a full-featured, object-oriented stand-alone programming language for Mac OS X. Its interactive development environment provides for fluid and productive programming by allowing quick testing and modification of small code segments.

A new system programming language designed to occupy the same niche C is currently holding, that allows for easier development of large platform-independent systems. The aims are to: * Keep all of C's system programming strengths. * Be as efficient as C (at run-time) and as high-level as possible for the programmer. * Promote modularity and ease the development of large-scale component-based software. * Enable programming-by-contract and other high-level features (as long as they incur no extraordinary costs at run-time). * Provide a stricter and more platform-independent type system than C. * Allow direct use of existing C and platform (e.g. Win32 API) libraries. This phrase from the "SPL Language Reference" says it all: "One could say SPL is what C should have been, were it not for the limitations of the time when C was designed".

Magda is a programming language introduced in Jarek Kusmierek's PhD (http://www.mimuw.edu.pl/~jdk/mixiny.pdf) and continued in Mauro Mulatero's thesis (http://www.tesionline.it/default/tesi.asp?idt=45612). Magda's goal is to allow a programmer to write well-modularized, reusable code. Magda is based upon the core notion of mixin as the only unit of reuse. The power of modularization of mixins is enhanced by two unique features. The first feature is the modularization of constructors. In Magda, many mixins with independent definitions of constructors can be combined without the need to copy any code and without the risk of clashes. The second distinctive feature modifies the way declarations of new methods, overriding methods, and method calls are done, in order to rule out accidental name clashes, even with respect to future modifications of the code. cowbel is a minimalist experimental programming language. It features strict types, static compilation into real machine code (via C), an object oriented system based on interfaces and composition, generics, no null, and a global garbage collector. It is intended to produce fast, tight code for use in systems programming, and to show that you don't need a complex language to be expressive and usable. We've moved!
