SPH schools emphasize internationalism, an Indonesian identity through language and cultural studies as a means of preparing Indonesian citizens for their place in Indonesian society and the world.
As a group of Christian schools, we base our approach on a Biblical perspective of the world, and Biblical Studies is a compulsory subject in the curriculum. Our aim is to equip our students to have a view of the world as created by God and sustained by him. As those made in his image, they are taught to develop the gifts and talents they have been born with and to attain high academic, cultural, sporting, and social skills so as to become people of influence in the world.
Teachers are a mix of expatriates and nationals and are recruited locally and internationally. All teachers must be well-qualified and willing to engage in ongoing professional development.
Our History
Sekolah Pelita Harapan was founded by two Indonesian businessmen, Bapak Johannes Oentoro and Bapak James Riady. Their vision was for a network of schools in Indonesia that would transform the nation by raising education standards at every level of society. SPH schools work in partnership with Sekolah Dian Harapan and Sekolah Lentera Harapan schools to serve families across the Indonesian archipelago.
The first SPH school was built in Lippo Village in 1993 and serves as the directing school for the group of 5 schools. This was followed by Sentul City in 1994 and Lippo Cikarang in 1995. Kemang Village opened in 2011, and our newest school is Pluit Village, which opened in 2014.
The schools are modern and well-equipped with facilities to rival any school in the world. These include modern well well-equipped classrooms, gymnasiums, swimming pools, sports fields (except in Kemang Village, which is in a high-rise facility), libraries, science laboratories, music facilities, dance studios, etc. With campuses now at each point of the compass in Jakarta, an SPH education is available to families anywhere in the city. SPH Sentul City also has a boarding house to cater to students from outside the Jakarta area.
With a holistic approach to education, each school offers not only a strong academic program utilising the International Baccalaureate and Cambridge programs, but offers a wide range of performing arts, sport, and student interest activities. Student leadership is encouraged, and mission and service learning activities foster an attitude of service to others amongst the student body.
Our Purpose in Education
That our students know and grow in Jesus Christ by the influence of high-quality Christian teachers and the Christian community witnessing to Christ.
That our students develop wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and skills that enable them to hold and live the Biblical Christian worldview through an excellent and holistic curriculum that equips students; all curriculum must relate to the Biblical worldview.
That our students develop a Biblical Christian worldview guided by the vision in order to fulfill the mission by the necessity of a deep understanding of the totality of the scripture.
That we provide multiple experiences for living out a Biblical Christian worldview with mission and service, sports, music, the arts, debating, leadership, etc. All become essential avenues for expressing the Vision, Mission, and Biblical Christian worldview.
