Game is completly unstable, mods feel REQUIRED to enjoy certain aspects of the game and they make the game even worse and the highest difficulty is such a step up that there is no good middle ground for players like me unless i actively kneecap myself, the game is completly neglected and not worth extended play

it's fun for a bit i will not deny, there is a certain DLC UNLOCKER out there but i am not allowed to say you should GET DLC UNLOCKER as it is by all means piracy and theoretically having most of the games content would be more fun if YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY 100$+

Imagine, god decides to decend into your room, god rays and all, with a heavenly entrance and he says in his deep, soothing and majestic voice "Hey kid. You some shrooms?" tModLoader is the resulting trip

Terraria is a very interesting game, it has gained insane amounts of traction, something unexpected from something that looks like 2d minecraft from the box, but this ain't 2d minecraft, let me explain.

You start terraria off with nothing but an excuse for a pickaxe, an old axe that a teenage boy would take with him anywhere to look tough and a sword the size of your nob, you eventually start chopping down some trees and make some wooden armor, you explore the world most likely going into the caves first, so you use the guts of your fallen slimy enimies to make some torches and explore the underground where you find some tier 2 ore and die, terraria already kicked in, there are 2 versions of the tier 2 ore, Iron or Lead, only one will spawn in the world and that is the same for all 4 tiers of ores that can spawn, making the game more replayable by at least 10x, but what if you want the other ore but not another world? Well there is already the alternative route of fishing which can provide crates that can give you any of those ores or even their bars, so not even 5 minutes into the game and you already have that terraria effect, that mass replay value, but anyway, you die and you respawn, you've made your workbench out of wood and now you make your furnace and anvil, you smelt your ore into bars and make some armor and then, once again, you are faced with terraria you can make a bow or a sword melee or ranged, This game has classes, if you were lucky enough to find some gems you could also make a staff so there is also a magic class, You could have also along the way found some massive tree that you could go down the roots in to find a chest with a staff that does summon damage and it summons a bird to fight for you. So already, 4 main classes to play as, terraria back at it again with it's big ♥♥♥♥ energy, It gives you a total of 4 main playstyles: melee, ranged, mage and summoner in order of the likelihood you'll play this class on your first playthough, You go back in the caves, much more ready this time, then you find something that looks like a house in the caves, inside is a chest, and in there are some bars, potions coins maybe torches and throwing knives and... boots? Who needs boots? These booties will increase your top speed making boss fighting easier if not nescessary (btw it's not you can complete the game without accessories which is insane do not try this at home) and there are many more like it, for example the band of regeneration which will increase your regen or the cloud in a bottle which will allow a double jump, but that isn't the only thing that you can get from these chests, if you happen to stumble upon one in an ice biome, there is a chance that there will be a weapon called the ice blade in that chest, the game is full of those, this will not be the only one, exploration goes a very long way in the game and rockets the replay value just in general, With all of these, the silver armor, ice blade, and the accessories, you're almost ready for your first boss, but wait a minute, i talked about potions before right?, place a bottle on a table and next to it you can make potions, the most important one will be the healing potions using a bottle, gel and some mushrooms found on the ground, these will heal you for 50 and will be very very useful for the battle with the first boss, maybe there is more potions to make? NPC's and to obtain them you must make some houses, they require an enclosed room with any form of door and enough room to stand in with a table, chair and lighting, npcs can sell some items that will allow you to prepare or improve your life and almost nesscessary too (but can be done without) and are in general fun to have around, they sell vanity too, so you can look swagger while you mine or destroy little puny slimes, And it goes even deeper too, these npc's can only be obtained under certain circumstances for example the merchant will only move in if you have 50 silver or more in your inventory, it gives the feel of obtaining npcs almost a mystery but also an achievement, the more you progress your game, the more you can progress with your town making, creating many more ways to just play the game, one of the npc's, the guide, will assist you in showing you whats next, helping with crafting recipies which you might need for your potions, all you need is to show off a bottle and you will know how to make a very useful potion for your first boss, the ironskin potion, now with proper preperation, you are ready for your first boss battle, take 6 lens into a demon altar and make a suspicious looking eye and activating it and get ready to fight a gigantic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ eye, luckly enough with enough manuvering you can beat the boss with ease, upon defeat, the eye will drop some ore, and it will allow you to be powerful enough to beat a new boss and terraria is full of this, there are many ways of going through the adventure of terraria a game good enough to replay enough times to waste away years off your life and worth beyond £7

TL;DR: Just buy the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing

While this is a genuinely negative review, I ultimately love this game, the thousands of hours I've played is worth it, The game design is phenomenal, the mechanics are unlike any other game, you will find nothing like it, it is very worth the play however i would discourage buying things if you can help it and visiting community servers to work around a few downsides of being a free to play.

If you are interested in this game, Do your best to AVOID CASUAL AT ALL COSTS, I recommend uncletopia, while it is not vanilla it's better than waiting for 10 minutes to get into a game and they are pretty much the ONLY populated server available, play with a friend if you can

After 5 entire years bots were finally dealt with, all it took was a few bans for the hosters to completly give up too, and supposedly the bans were manual, this amount of time to fix a critical issue is unacceptable, the game is in an abysmal state still, many of the features recently added over the last 7 years make the game feel bloated and noisy, generally decreasing the enjoyment of this game

The lazy way content is being added is just as bad, the selection of what is allowed and whats not not only conflicts with the existing game design, is very minimal in the way that it's mostly cosmetics and maps but ALSO the selection feels somewhat random at times with the only thing that helps you get your items added being the items popularity.

The balance of the game is generally really well done but there are a few select items that do not belong in the game anymore and make the game worse to play as a whole, and the lack of even a few extra weapons for classes like engineer, medic and heavy who really need new ways to spice up their gameplay, even if it were to be few extra additions it would wake up the game slightly more, while the community can't make a good weapon idea to save their lives there are still good ideas floating around there.

BUT, above all else the casual system is genuinely unacceptable, abysmal, complete joke to everyone, every other game, everyone who played or plays tf2, you will enjoy the game more if you avoid it, i want the old, flawed, crusty quickplay back because as cranky as it was at least it worked.

TL;DR Do not play casual, play with a friend if possible, the game is great at it's core but new systems and massive neglect are destroying it.

Valve is not your friend, they are taking you for granted.
