Use search filters to find homes with more flexible cancellation policies, including options for full refunds—even for cancellations made close to your departure date. Here’s how:

1. Enter your destination and travel dates in the search bar
2. Select Filters
3. Choose the Free cancellation filter to find places that offer a full refund if you need to cancel

Types of free cancellation policies

There are different options a host might offer for a full refund. These include:

• 1-day free cancellation: A full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before check in
• 5-day free cancellation: A full refund if you cancel at least 5 days before check-in

Check the specific cancellation policy to understand the terms and conditions.

Options to extend the time you can cancel your reservation for free

Flexibility is a key factor when choosing a place to stay. An extended cancellation option allows you to extend the free cancellation window to 24 hours before check-in for an extra cost. This means as long as you cancel at least 24 hours before check-in, you’ll get a full refund, including the extra cost of the extended cancellation—even if the listing’s cancellation policy doesn’t offer one.

Note: Not all listings will have the extended cancellation option. It’s the host’s choice to offer this option and is only available on certain listings with a moderate, limited, firm, or strict cancellation policy.
