About the Project

I like to keep projects on the go almost as a constant Having something to build and paint around gaming gives me a choice to do what I’m in the mood for on any given day…nice, nice, nice. I’ve done very little kit bashing (I recently did 18 insurgents for Battlespace which has given me the drive) as I’ve spent years churning out generic miniatures for so many games for both board and Tabletop games. I want to do something more creative so a 5 mini warband seemed a manageable choice. I rolled up my characters for both stats and cosmetic looks, I’ll use these as a guide but will divert if something looks better or worse during the builds. Firs thing I made a Pinterest board full of kit bashed models for inspiration……I’m not the most naturally creative, in fact I can spend more time trying to visualise an idea than actually doing it and in the process get a little deflated by my efforts when compared with reference material ( yes, a very bad unhealthy habit I need to quash) with that I declare this project open, and may all that look upon it be encouraged to have a go if not already a kit bash god!

Thomas The Firewizard and Nishet The Distressed under way ( in progress)

Forbidden Psalm kit bashed models or car crash?

A little more done this evening, I decided to concentrate on getting the basic profiles together for all 5 miniatures then go back and add all the details and refine later on. Three built so far and another one with an idea and bits ready to go. I am also considering at this point doing an extra couple of miniatures for variety later on.

More progress today, that’s the 5 characters together, now I’m trying to tie them together in some way, might be some chopping and changing in order. Looking at the 5 I have  mixed feelings as to how human they look, not really what I set out to do, in my mind,  I was hoping for something a bit more wow! and creepy, I know where I want to be but don’t quite know how to get there? I’m sure we have all been there. I’ll keep going and hope something clicks along the way.

Well…..things look different today….Ive spent many an hour looking at them I don’t know how to improve them any further with my ability and I’m not sure about their cohesiveness or if it even matters as much as I think it does? Hopefully the painting will bring them together if I use a limited colour palette. I remind myself I have made them to match their names and descriptions as individuals, I could have restricted sprues to just 2 or 3  choices to keep things more cohesive which is something I will try next time.
I really like the big ogre as it took on a different feel and added story and questions by adding the little guy at the front ( a too infrequent lightbulb moment) ….note, there will be a chain in the ogres nose going to the hand of the little guy like he’s the handler or something of this mass of destruction on legs. The most important thing for me was not to copy others work but to be inspired by it. Any suggestions or kit bashing methods are welcome in the comments.
