To “solve” the issue, scammers explain the need to “connect to their secure server.” They’ll direct you to a website and ask you to download and install a remote access tool like AnyDesk, UltraViewer, or Screen Connect.

Once the program is installed, it generates a unique code or PIN that the scammer will ask you to share with them. That code is the key to your computer. When you share it, you’re giving them the ability to get on your device as if they were sitting right in front of it — seeing your screen, moving your mouse, opening your files.
