I am really excited for you to read my debut novel “The Clan of Mist”, co-written with Johnna Dee.
The Clan of Mist is the first of six books in the Calpa Series: a New Adult fantasy romance featuring shifters, magical amulets, fated mates and enemies to lovers tropes.
I understand that this book may not be for everyone (and is recommended 18+ years due to the spice level), however, I appreciate each and every one of you that gives this book a chance.
Thank you,

I actually enjoyed this book SO much. I really love the way the authors kind of went into detail about each character so you knew everyone’s back story and it made it so much easier to follow along. I am invested in these characters, and that cliffhanger!!! It ended PERFECTLY, but also left me wanting SO much more in a good way. This was a super easy and fast paced read as well.

If you love magical creatures and enemies to lovers, then this book is 100% for you!

I received this book as an arc and I am so glad I got it. I loved it. It was wonderful. The 2 main characters were so much fun. It was a sweet love story between a siren and a crocodile shifter. I loved every second of this story. It was fast paced and very entertaining. Five stars just isn't enough. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I received this book as an arc. It was definitely a fun read, different from a lot of the books I’ve been reading lately and that was refreshing. The author weaves a captivating world that sucks you in as you go. Once released, I definitely recommend reading it. You won’t be disappointed.

"Her breath caught as she could not avert her eyes from his. She felt herself get lost in the dark depths of his eyes. Her body flushed from a heat burning inside her. She bit her lip as she felt her heartbeat speeding up inside her chest."
The Clan of Mist by Krysta Lyn and Johanna Dee is a Paranormal Fantasy Romance that follows Thessalia a siren from the Thalassic clan with her mother as the leader.
Thessalia is supposed to participate in the tournament that takes place every 25 years between the siren clans to  decide who will protect the water amulet.
Sirens are not supposed to fall in love or interact with males unless they want a child and afterward they discard them.
But that changes when Thessalia is kidnapped by Kage, a crocodile shifter who needs the water amulet. That plan also changes when they start to get closer to each other, slowly realizing they are fated mates and Kage is ready to do anything to protect Thessalia and Thessalia is ready to give up anything for him.
I enjoyed this book so much! I loved all the different clans and shifters but the crocodile shifter is my favorite.
I was so happy to see Thessalia maturing and putting her foot down with her mother, living for herself the way she wanted but it made me so happy to see the mother changing as well, accepting her daughters choices and not making the same mistakes as her mother.
My favorite character, my favorite everything has to be Kage, seeing how much he grew, doing everything he could to keep Thessalia safe, and also giving up something important to ensure it. How he thought of the best way she would be the safest and freed her even if it meant he would never see her again. I loved how their feelings for each other grew and how they were ready to give everything else up for each other. Dromie has to be the second-best character and the best of friends, always there for Thessalia, ready to do anything to find her friend and to see her happy. I can't wait to hopefully see more of the story and more of the characters.

I seriously had never thought I’d read about a crocodile shifter loving a siren because they thrive in different bodies of water, but I’m here for it!

The authors did a great job of laying out the world in the beginning and circling back to summarize what was discussed in the previous chapters in the end. I really appreciate that because it reinforced my understanding of the plot!

Thessalia🧜‍♀️ “Thess” (FMC) is next in line to compete in a tournament to replace her mother as the new guardian of the Cyrene islands and the Amulet of Water. I found it truly ironic that she didn’t have a “voice” to stand up to her mother when she in fact was a Siren whose “voice” was to be used to lure and seduce.

Summary:

While trying to decompress from her training, Thess’ best friend, Adromeda 🕊️(Dromie), takes Thess out to the local night club. While on a night out Thess is surprised when Kage, 🐊 (MMC) appears and suddenly she’s TAKEN by not only his gaze, but he actually kidnaps her for ransom! Both characters are caught up in a whirlwind of emotion not only caused by the siren magic but by the struggle to find their individual voices in this fantastical world where war is inevitable!

It was fun! I enjoyed the nightclub and tourney scenes. The authors added the cocktail recipes for the drinks mentioned in the club scenes at the end! It was such a nice touch and I plan on trying out those cocktails this weekend!

If you enjoy the following, pick this up!
🌀Fae Creatures (Sirens, Shifters, Witches, Vamps, Nymphs, Demons, Halcyons)
🌀New Adult Fantasy
🌀Action/Tournament for power
🌀Fated Mates
🌀Forbidden Love

To be honest, it was reminiscent to works by Sherrilyn Kenyon, which I enjoyed in my early twenties! 🫠

I would have loved for it to have a bit more romance, but I know it’s only due to the fact that I’m a mood reader and I’m in a very romantic mood at the moment! 🥰

Since this is the authors’ debut novel and first in a series, I only expect the next book to be even better. The world, magic system, and characters have already been introduced to readers and I’m anxiously awaiting the release of the Novella The Clan of Deception #1.1 ~ releasing soon!

Thank you to the authors Krysta Lyn and Johnna Dee for the advanced reader copy of The Clan of Mist. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love that shifter clans are actually getting along! That is so rare in books. There were many different shifter clans and we still didn't get to meet all of them in this first book. It is exciting to see where the rest of the series will go.

I liked how the magic system worked as well. The water amulet description is really powerful. You feel like you know the exact sensations Thess is experiencing. The amulets needed to be a bigger part of the book.

It also needs to be edited a little more. There were multiple occasions where the same sentence was in the paragraph.

Personally I had some issues with the insta love and kidnapping scences. That's what makes it a 3 star read for me.

Thank you so much to the authors for the arc of this book! This is my honest opinion and review.

I had a nice time reading Clan of Mist, it was fast paced to read. The world building was easy to understand. One of the thing that I liked is you don’t have to wait several books to have the love interest together. You can from the first book have some romance. It was an enemies to lovers with prisoner and keeper. It’s one of my favorite trope.
If you are looking a book with : romance, enemies to lovers, magic, different species, prisoner and keeper, spices. You should try Clan of Mist.

MERMAID x CROCODILE SHIFTER

🧜🏻‍♀️Kidnapping
🧜🏻‍♀️Spice
🧜🏻‍♀️Protective MMC
🧜🏻‍♀️New Adult Fantasy
🧜🏻‍♀️Forbidden Love

I really loved the vibe of the book. It just had this sense of swampy oceans, from the crocodile shifter to the mermaid heroine.

It’s about this mermaid shifter that’s supposed to take place in a tournament between siren clans to decide who protects the water amulet (amulets are really important in this series)

Cue a kidnapping by Kage, a crocodile shifter who needs the water amulet. Sirens, like Thess (the FMC) aren’t supposed to interact with males unless it’s to fall in love or they want a child (to which they usually discard the men after).

AND THEY’RE FATED MATES!!! So looks like he’s not going to just steal it and run 🤣🤣🥵

Kage has some great protective vibes and I love watching Thess evolve in this book. The mother plays a role and it was nice to see Thess stand up to her mom. It was just really satisfying to have a FMC that has real growth.

It was such an easy read and really took you away to a fun, fantasy world. I love Kage’s house in the swamps too 💚

I recommend it if you love mermaids, magic, and romance!

The Clan of Mist is the first book in a new fantasy series with lots of clans, amulets, shifters, and magical beings. It was a fresh and original book with promise of a great series in the works. I would never have paired a siren with a crocodile shifter, but in this story, it totally worked. Overall it was a good story, it had high points and low points for me, thus my rating of 3-3.5 stars. Since this is a newer author, I fully anticipate this series will get better with each new installment.

The story captures your interest from the first page. We meet Thess, a siren, who has lived a sheltered life and yearns to live a different life than her mother. Her entire life has been spent training to become the guardian of the water amulet, but she wants to be so much more than what her mother wants her to be. I really disliked her mother through most of the book, but was pleasantly surprised that my feelings changed by the end of the book. It felt different than the typical mother/daughter relationship we see in so many fantasy stories.

I found my impression of Kage to be all over the place. I hope we see some growth in his character in the future. His character just fell a little flat for me. For me he lacked the angst and instant love that I normally feel in any fated mate trope. I found the transition from captor to love interest somewhat disjointed, and I felt at times there just needed to be more.

Overall, it was a good read and I do look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you to the authors for my ARC :)

Thessalia is a siren destined to take over as clan leader from her mother. It’s not the exact life she wants as she just wants to explore the world. Her clan possess a water amulet that they battle against other sirens to be the protectors of every 25 years. There are 7 amulets that exist in the world and if combined unleash a demon into the world. When Thessalia decides one day to leave her village to explore she gets lost but a halcyon shifter Dromie navigates her home and they become friends.

Dromie’s uncle owns a night club for magical beings and one night out, Thessalia spots him! What’s is it about this man? She feels all kinds of things inside, but in an instant he’s gone. It’s not long before Dromie organises a double date of sorts and it involves this mysterious stranger. Next minute, Thessalia has passed out and been kidnapped. This dark mysterious stranger named Kage has kidnapped her for the amulet, but her mother won’t ever give it up. But why does she continue to feel attraction for him when he’s entrapped her without water to fuel her magic?

This book was easy to read that I read it in one go! It’s fast paced, we never get lost in the world building and the characters are loveable. Was definitely a great opening novel to the series and I definitely was left wanting more. I felt like Thessalia was relatable because when you’re young, you want to break free of any restrictions your parents place on you.

I wasn’t expecting the spicy scenes when they came along, so that was a nice surprise when I got to those pages. It’s a small dose in there and fun!

I loved the idea of crocodile shifters as it’s not something I personally have come across in my readings, so that was refreshing. Kage has lived a rough life and he has got to have layers right? Will be interesting to see if we get to know him more in the series.

This book has a mix of fated mates, enemies to lovers, magic, shifters, romance and kidnapping trope. If you’re a lover of any of these, then you will enjoy this start to a series!

🧜‍♀️ The Clan of Mist ARC Review 🧜‍♀️

Thank you so much to Krysta Lyn and Johnna Dee for the opportunity to read and review this book!

The Clan of Mist is a paranormal urban fantasy romance that centers around Thessalia, the daughter of the clan leader and future protector of the sacred water amulet. In an attempt to make amends and pay off his father’s debts, Kage a crocodile shifter agrees to kidnap Thessalia in exchange the water amulet to complete a deal with a demon. What could possibly go wrong??

Even though they got off to a rocky start, the relationship between Thess and Kage evolved beautifully. They both had reasons to reject their feelings for each other, and it was fun to watch them evolve. The side characters were wonderful too and I hope we eventually get their stories!

Overall a fun three star read for me! Though this was a slowish burn, there were a few smut scenes but not super detailed - so two flames for spice! If you like paranormal romance with enemies to lovers, fated mates, broody shifters and super fun world building, then definitely pick this one up!

I absolutely loved this book. The characters were very easy to love, the story line was really good and easy to follow. I love the aspect of magic and powers so much! The world building was minimal in the first book but I assume it will go farther as other clans are introduced in the following books to come. The action and suspense throughout the book were amazing and it left on such a cliffhanger!! I absolutely cannot wait for the next book! I highly recommend this book to fantasy lovers. Phenomenal debut novel!! Congrats to the authors, I’m officially hooked, and you did an amazing job!!

Who doesn't love a good siren story? Thess has been groomed and trained her entire life to take over as leader of their clan once she comes of age and her mother is ready to step down. All Thess really wants is freedom. Each clan in existence is in possession of an amulet, but there's one creature out there in search of all of them. Thess finds herself caught up in the middle of everything as she's used as leverage to get her clan's amulet, but could all of the trouble she's thrown in lead to much more in her life? Filled with magical creatures, fated mates, drama, and trouble, this book is full of thrills. It's definitely an enjoyable read!

I loved the plot of this story. Where it fell short for me was the omnipotent style of narration. It got confusing at times. I enjoyed the different types of shifters that you don’t usually encounter. I rated 3 stars due to narration, and this not being a book I would re-read.

Thess is a siren who is supposed to take place in a tournament that happens every 25 years and decides who will protect the water amulet. She soon finds herself kidnapped by Kage, a crocodile shifter, who has a need for the amulet. Things don't go as planned as the pair begin to grow close, and discover that they are fated mates.

This was an interesting book that gave some interesting spins on the shifter community. I had never heard of a crocodile shifter before this book, so that was a first for me. I love Thess's character and how determined she is. Her and Kage make an interesting pair, especially with her being a siren and the nature that comes with that.

The writing needed a little more editing, and some fine tuning. Some sections didn't feel cohesive and as if the author had some ideas for that particular scene and kind of mashed them together.

This book is a shifter romance, book 1 focusing on a siren and crocodile shifter.

This first book to the series was super cool, I loved the concept and the themes, as well as the story!

The characters were well developed, and the side characters were perfectly set up for their own books!

This book has friendship, romance, drama and excitement! Quite a lot is packed into it, so it keeps you on yours toes!

Lost a star for me only because I felt some parts of the story could have been developed a bit more in detail, rounding it off. Some parts felt a bit disjointed to me.

That being said, I couldn’t help but devour the sneak peak chapter of Clan of Luna! I anticipate a great book!

I, as a reader and not an author, think it must be incredibly challenging to co-write a book, and these two authors did a great job!

This was another refreshing book and start to a new series I got on Kickstarter. I liked this story a lot. Not too heavy on the romance, but when it was there, it was the good kind of heavy. The plot took the center stage and was very engaging. The characters were well-written and enjoyable. Sure, there were some grammatical errors but nothing too major to make reading difficult and take away from the story. Ultimately, I am intrigued by where this series will go and want to read more.

I really enjoyed this fantasy romance. It was an interesting spin on shifter/sirens. The authors did an excellent job capturing interest, driving the story forward, creating relationships, and shifting those as they wove the plot. In particular I really liked the female MC - I felt she was well developed. Looking forward to a sequel.

This was a fun start to a new fantasy world. Thess is such an awesome strong female mc. She shows you can be strong and gentle in nature (but watch out if she's backed into a corner) Kage is a fun grumpy male mc. The plot kinda meandered at times, there are a fair number of subplots, but my favorite part was definitely the tournament. We definitely have some infinity stone vibes with the plot that I assume will be the overarching plot of the series. I loved all the water fighting. Great entry into the clans of calpa.

I really liked the idea behind this series. It was a bit different than anything I’ve read lately. I liked that we were introduced to a bunch of different magical species.

I did think there were a few things in the story that didn’t exactly add up or at least were not explained in a way that it made sense. I felt the relationship between them needed more development it felt like it was side stepped with the “life mate” thing and I would have like to see more development.

I think this series has major potential and I hope to see more from future books.

📖My Thoughts📖

I’m still fairly new to reading fantasy books (I know, I know) as they’ve always been intimidating to me for some reason. This was a pretty easy one for me to follow. It’s the first book in The Calpa Series. I really enjoyed the storyline for this first book. It was something I was able to follow having just enough elements to keep it interesting but not become overwhelming. There some romance (enemies to lovers, one of my favorite tropes) with a smidge of smut (just the right amount to keep it juicy), magic, a further look into one of seven clans, shifters, amulets and even a tournament. Overall I found this to be a good first look into the series and am looking forward to reading the next installment.
Thank you Krysta Lyn and Johnna Dee for the opportunity to read and review this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
