Reamer Techniques and Best Practices

Making and using reamers involves several steps. Reamers are made by turning tool steel into tapered steps of increasing diameter, then milling flats onto the steps to create cutting edges. Reamers are used to bore holes in wood pipes by slowly inserting the reamer while clearing chips. Initial reaming opens the hole, and final reaming achieves the proper diameter and finish. Proper lubrication, chip clearing, and avoiding excess pressure are important for good results.
