5,000 FREE SANDBAGS FOR THE COMMUNITY
San Diego, CA: On Saturday, January 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Councilmember Chris Cate,
San Diego Fire Fighters and dozens of Boy Scouts will be filling and distributing 5,000 sandbags at

The City of San Diego has been steadfast in its efforts to prepare for the likelihood of more and
greater El Nio rainstorms. City crews are working vigilantly to clear storm drains, repair roadways
and equip City facilities for what is expected to be a very wet winter. Getting ready for El Nio is a
team effort which also requires the help of San Diego residents and businesses.
With the El Nio rains anticipated this winter, protecting your home with sandbags is a great
offense. Properly used, sandbags are a simple and effective way to prevent or reduce flood water
damage, said Councilmember Cate.
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based
