Managing Challenging Behavior in Class

Student A does not listen when the teacher tells them to stop during lining up. To prevent this, the teacher will remind students daily of rules and expected behaviors during instructions. Visual cues will also be used. If the behavior occurs, the teacher will make lining up a competition and ask students what they should do when instructed. The teacher plans to teach listening skills and reinforce positive behaviors in early lessons.

Target child / group:

Student A

Trigger:

Students are directed to line up after playing.

What can I do to prevent

the problem behavior?
Remind the students in every
morning about the rules and
what should they do when the
teacher gives them
instructions.
Put some visual pictures to
illustrate the rules. Thank the
student who does the right
behavior and explain to the
class why I thanked him / her.

What can I do if the

problem behavior occurs?
Make a small competition
between the students to see who
can finishes first.

What new skills

should I teach?
How to listen to the teacher.

Ask the students what should we

do when the teacher asks us to do
something

Recommendations for future action:

In the first days of my teaching practice I should teach the students about good behaviors and the outcomes
of doing the right thing.
