Hearing, vision tests

Hearing and vision tests for next years Kindergarteners will take place this month. If your child will be 5 years old by GLCDC is closing one Nov. 1, 2013, the State of Michigan requires hearing and vision hour early, at 5 p.m., on tests before starting Kindergarten next fall. Thursday, Oct. 31 for HalHearing and vision tests are Tuesday, Oct. 1 and loween. Wednesday, Oct. 2. Holiday closure

Halloween party, Oct. 31

GLCDC is having its annual Halloween party on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 9:30 a.m. There will be sign-up sheets for snacks, treats, juice, and paper goods. We share the goodies among all of the classes. Also, please send a $1 donation per child for pizza lunch. Children can wear costumes and parade through the halls, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Weather permitting, we will parade outside on the playyard. Please send a change of clothes for children who stay all day.

After the parade, the preschool and pre-K classes will trick or treat through the halls (or on the play yard). We need parents to help pass out treats during trick or treating. Look for sign-up sheets by each room for volunteering. If your child doesnt attend on Thursdays, you are welcome to bring him or her to the party as long as you stay with your child during the party.

Believe, have patience, dont give up

Heres a random quote to ponder this month: Good things come to those who believe. Better things come to those who are patient. And the best things come to those who dont give up. Its like The Little Engine Who Could keep telling yourself, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can! And be patient and loving with yourself when you want to give up. Use positive self talk and keep saying, You CAN do it! During World War II, when the bombings were at their worst and British people were evacuating their children, Winston Churchill famously said, Never, never, never give up. At such a bleak and terrifying time it was not enough to say, Never give up. At your most difficult moments, believe in yourself and be patient with yourself and always remember: Never, never, NEVER give up!

Traffic signal timing

We are aware that the traffic signal at 13 Mile Road and Dequindre is cycling too slowly. Miss Patty has been in contact with the Macomb County Department of Roads and they are working on the situation. The road department has hired a consultant who will analyze traffic patterns and determine how to adjust the timings. They hope to complete the tests and adjustments within the next two months.

GLCDC parent opens new brewery!

One of our families from GLCDC has started a new business venture! George Lang has opened the Falling Down Beer Company, 2270 East Ten Mile Road in Warren. The Website is [Link] George and his wife, Sherry, have four children. Their sons, Jason and Andrew, are graduates of GLCDCs program and their daughters, Keira and Kaitlyn, are in Pre-K and Preschool Prep. Falling Down Beer Co. is open TuesdayThursday, 4-11 pm and Friday-Saturday, 11 am to midnight. The brewery has a full menu in addition to many varieties of beers, all brewed on-site.
