Letterhead
Description: Business card design with a matching letter head.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): The first item of business was to create a
logo. I used Illustrator, predominantly the shape tool along with the pen
tool as well, and created the logo. Then I drafted a layout for the business
card and experimented with different designs to see which one I preferred. I
ended up choosing a portrait orientation with a simple green/gray theme. I
used created 3.5 by 2 rectangles and them placed the logo and information
on top. After I finished the business cards I used the same information and
logo and design principles of strong Alignment and the green/gray theme
to create the letter head. I used another green rectangle on the letter head
to increase the unity between the cards and stationary. I also added a
watermark by increasing the size of the logo and reducing the transparency
to 10%.
Message: The Green Association is dedicated to helping the community
care for the environment. The dark green accentuates this priority.
Audience: Anyone wanting to learn more about environmental care and
help be a good steward.
Color scheme and color names: Monochromatic Green.

Flier
Description: Black and White promotional flier for a graduate leadership
conference.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I started my process of
design by sketching four different versions of the flier. I then used one of my
sketches to create this layout in Adobe InDesign. I used the gray rectangles
and boxes to create repetition and gestalt. I inserted a picture that had
good value and enlarged one word in my title to capture attention and
create a prominent focal point. For contrast I kept the body copy small and
left plenty of white space.
Message: I am trying to catch the eye of graduates, who desire to set
themselves apart from others by enhancing their leadership abilities, by
informing them how this conference can help in that endeavor.
Audience: Adults ages 22-30 who are soon to be graduating or who have
already graduated.

Logos
Description: Logo for an organization
Process: First I selected an organization that I wanted to create a logo for.
Then I made sure I understood the message and purpose of the organization
and then sketched some ideas for a logo. I had several different designs with
different color schemes and typography. I mainly used the curvature tool to
create the leaves and copied them and altered their angles with this specific
design. I gathered opinions from 10 people asking which logo appealed to
them the most. This logo is the one that received the most votes. I altered
the colors in the design to create a color, black and white, and white on color
example.
Program: Adobe Illustrator.
Message: This is a company committed to taking care of the environment.
Audience: People interested in taking care of the planet.
Color Scheme and Color Names: Monochromatic Green.
Title / Body Font Names & Categories: Plantagenet Cherokee Oldstyle.
Imaging
Description: This is a flyer to promote robotics.
Process: At first I took lots of pictures of anything and everything that I
found interesting. Then I chose a photo that I liked and would be different.
I then chose the color scheme of complementary. I opened up the photo in
Photoshop and enhanced the blues and oranges while dimming the others. I
blurred and blackened the background so it wouldnt distract from the robot.
I sharpened the portion of the picture with the robot to increase clarity. Next
I added text and simple design elements. I had to tweek them a lot to achieve
contrast. I only used blue and orange within the design (except for the word
complementary) to reach desired levels of repetition, rhythm, and gestalt.
Message: My message is that robotics is a skill that you can use to build cool
contraptions.
Audience: My audience is anyone interested in robotics.
Color Scheme and Color Names: Complementary with Blue and Orange.

Webpage
Description: A webpage designed to showcase a personally created logo.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I created this webpage using Notepad+ +
and Text Wrangler. I had never before dealt with CSS or HTML and it was
amazing to me to see that something I thought was extremely complex be
completed with simple programs. I attached a pre-made CSS program to my
HTML. I then used Photoshop and got the colors from my logo by used the
eyedropper tool and incorporated them into the page. I changed the title
font to match the font in my logo. I also changed the body font from Times
New Roman to Palatino Linotype. After changing the fonts I added in my
descriptions and text about my logo. I made the background of the webpage
a picture of the mountains to enunciate the focus on the environment.
Message: This organization is focused on maintaining and encouraging
environmental stewardship.
Audience: This is a college campus organization so it is geared towards
college age individuals.
Color scheme and color hex(s): Monochromatic. Light Green: #0b9444, Dark
Green: #106936, Dark Gray: #818285, Light Gray: #d1d2d4, White: #FFFFFF.

Event Ad
Description: This is an event ad for a flower sale where all the proceeds go
towards the Horticulture department.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): First I chose an event I
wanted to create an ad for. Then I found an image to be the main focus of the
ad that supported the message. Then I scanned the image and began to put
in text describing the event. After I had the main idea I got feedback from
classmates. After the feedback I worked on repetition with the color pink
incorporating the box and strip at the bottom to add unity. Then I rearranged
the text to allow for more white space in the upper right hand corner.
Message: The message Im trying to get across with this ad is that there
will be a flower sale on the 15 of May for the benefit of the Horticulture
department.
Audience: My audience is teenagers and older who are interested in buying
flowers.
Color scheme and color names: Split Complementary. Teal, Red, and
Orange.

Brochure
Description: Two sided (duplex) folding brochure.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I opened up Adobe Indesign and opened
an 11 by 8.5 document. From there I used the rulers/guides and pulled them
to the areas of the paper where I would fold the brochure. This would help
me in the design process, keeping text and images inside the folds. I then
searched the internet for images that would effectively convey and illustrate
my message. The photos I chose all had on of the colors in my color scheme
present to add unity. I used two images, the mountain range and the dirt, to
act as backgrounds and add texture. One image, the light bulb, I opened in
Photoshop first and used the magnetic lasso to select the light bulb itself. After
I cut the light bulb out of the picture I inserted it into my Indesign document. I
re-selected the light bulb in Indesign and applied a text wrap so the text would
wrap around its shape. Using the text tool I placed all of my text and applied a
line space paragraph style. For the Logo I decreased the transparency levels on
the G so that it would fade into the background and not be overbearing.
Message: Inform my audience about what the Green Association is and how
they can become involved.
Audience: College students at BYU-Idaho.
Color scheme and color names: Split Complementary: Blue, Green, and
Brick.
Title Font Name & Category: Myriad Pro Regular Sans Serif.
Copy Font Name & Category: Times New Roman Oldstyle.
Montage
Description: An inspirational montage using two or more images and
typography.
Process: First I brainstormed my idea and came up with the design. Then
I searched and found the images that would accurately convey my desired
message. First I placed the background image at the desired size. Then I
outlined the missionary and cut him out of his photo at 100% feather and
placed him in the project. I used 100% opacity on the brush with black paint
and got rid of the hard edges and items in the missionary photo that I didnt
want. Adjusting the opacity down to 30% I faded the edges more. Using
12% opacity I did fine detailed work around the missionary making sure the
blending was smooth so he just melted into the soldier and sunset. Then I used
a font that has a military theme and added the inspirational scripture. After
that I adjusted sharpness in desired places and enhanced colors.
Message: I wanted to convey that no matter where you are in the world, or
whatever your calling, the Lord is always with you.
Audience: This image will particularly powerful for soldiers and missionaries
but it is applicable to everyone who has ever gone away from home.
Color Scheme and Color Names: Monochromatic Orange.
