SQL Server 2012
The SQL Server 2012 product lineup has been simplified to four main editions that are
closely aligned with how customers use SQL Server software:
Enterprise for mission critical applications and data warehousing
Business Intelligence (new) for premium corporate and self-service Business
Intelligence capabilities
Standard for basic database capabilities, reporting and analytics
Web designed to support internet-facing workloads, only available through SPLA.
The Enterprise and Standard editions are available under a new core-based licensing
model. Core-based licenses are sold in two-core packs. To license a physical server, you must
license all the cores in the server, with a minimum of 4 core licenses required for each
physical processor in the server.
The new Business Intelligence edition is offered under the SAL licensing model. Also the
Standard Edition continues to be available under the SAL licensing option.

System Center Server
1. System Center 2012 Server Management licensing.
System Center 2012 server management licensing maximizes your service provider cloud
value while simplifying purchasing:
Processor model
The Processor license model replaces the Subscriber Access License SAL model.
o Datacenter Edition: 1-processor license, manage unlimited OSEs
o Standard Edition: 1-processor license, manage 1 OSE
Simple licensing
Server Management software is included
Consistent capabilities
o All components plus ability to manage high end workloads
o SQL technology included
System Center 2012 management licenses will be released in 2 editions differentiated by
virtualization rights only:
To provide you with the capabilities you need to manage a cloud, both Standard and
Datacenter editions of System Center 2012 include all the System Center components
relevant to managing servers.
There is no differentiation between the types of workloads you can manage with either
edition. The only difference between the editions is the number of Operating System
Environments (OSEs) that you can manage per license. Datacenter Edition allows the
management of an unlimited number of OSEs per license. Standard Edition allows the
management of one OSE per license.

3. System Center 2012 Transition timeline
All System Center products on the January 2012 price list stay on the price list during
calendar year 2012 except for SMSE, SMSD, and System Center Operations Manager Web
Servers.
The January 2013 price list will not include the old System Center SKUs. SPLA program rules
allow customers with old System Center products before January 2013 to order them after
January 2013 until their contract expires. New and renewal customers may only order
System Center 2012 products.
Because the SPLA program is a subscription program, SPLA partners can continue to host on
the current product for the life of their agreement. SPLA partners can also move to the new
products as summarized below:

Core Infrastructure Suite
The Core Infrastructure Suite (CIS) provides a licensing program for hosting service providers
to purchase the technology needed today for a well-managed and protected datacenter.
Hosting Service Providers receive cost savings relative to purchasing the components of the
Core Infrastructure Server Suites on a standalone basis; and for the incremental investment
of up to 20% over Windows Server standalone prices, customers receive the value of a wellmanaged and protected datacenter.
To complete the existing Datacenter offer, Microsoft is introducing a Standard offer.
