First Week Reflections at Al Wahda School

In her first week of teaching practicum at Al Wahda Private School, the author was nervous but was warmly welcomed by the kindergarten director who gave her a tour. She was assigned to KG2-A and worked with teacher Ms. Sonika, who helped motivate the author and introduce her to lesson planning and activities. While the students were friendly, the author was worried about managing a merged class of 24 students from two classes, which her cooperating teacher had not experienced before.

Reflective Journal

( First Week at Al Wahda Private School)

In my first day of teaching practicum that started in October 9, 2017, I was nervous and all

my thinking is how to deal with the new teacher and new students. But we were surprised that

the kindergarten director was waiting for us and welcomed us warmly. She took us on a tour of

the kindergarten and introduced us to kindergarten and classroom classes. Then she took us to

her office to ask her about some important things, and she was grateful to answer our questions,

and gave us the space to choose the chapter we would like to be in. I preferred to be in the KG2.

I am in KG2-A with Ms. Sonika she teaching them English, Math, Topic, IT, and PE. I was

grateful to meet her and stay in her class. It gives me motivation and encourages me from the

first day, and this makes me happy and comfortable to stay with her. The students were friendly,

and from the first week I met their names and abilities.

I learned how the teacher explained lessons for all subjects, and what kind of activities that

she do for them. I discussed with her about the curriculum and chose the days that I will teach

and gave me some of the ideas and topics that I will teach.

They were 2 classes of KG2, in Wednesday they merged the two classes in one class, this is

what worries me a lot because the class routine will not be in line with the students who joined

us, and the number of students has become large from 11 students has become to 24 students.

My school teacher was very concerned about this thing because she had not dealt with it before.
