Reflection Paper on the Stage Play of 12-ABM
By: Noelle Angelene V. Bagcal
Love is really the greatest force in the universe. It can make a person go insane. It can
make anything possible even when it is already hopeless. It’s bizarre to be truly in love with
someone, but when it happens, you can never do anything but to give in. That’s one thing I
learned from the play I’ve watched from the 12th grade students of ABM. The play is indeed
amazing. It was about a girl who’s secretly dating a guy who lives in a small cottage, but was
forced to be with someone whom she doesn’t love.
As I was watching the performance, I can’t help but to think of how cruel this world is to
separate people from loving each other. Even the odds were against them. But, the saddest thing
about it is that they loved each other so much that one has gone mad and made him kill his lover
and himself. There are a lot of cases that is the same as this one that is happening in real world. It
made me realize that love can also be dangerous at times. It came to my mind that when love is
enormous, it is toxic. I also learned that no matter how we say that money can’t buy us
happiness, status will always matter. Only those who are from well-off families have the rights to
do everything they want. Average people are belittled, which is very common to our society.
They don’t receive the same treatment that elite people receive. Their rights as a human are taken
from them. Justice is even hard to serve unless you have the money to pay for it, which portrays
how unfair the justice system is nowadays.
This play has shown me the reality of this world that we’re living in. We can never get
what we want, neither love nor justice, if we don’t have the wealth. We live in a world where
freedom and fairness are nowhere to be found.
Critique Paper: Van Gogh’s Starry Night
By: Noelle Angelene V. Bagcal
It’s undeniable that Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most popular painters in the history.
His very famous “Starry Night” is one of the most recognized work of art in the world. Starry
Night is an oil canvas painted in 1889 during his stay at the asylum of Saint-Remy. It has a
height of 73.7 cm and length 92.10cm. It is said that Starry Night is the view of the village from
the asylum’s window. It is characterized as a landscape painting for it gives attention to the
nature. Vincent made a perfect balance with line. The painting consists swirling of clouds of the
starry night sky and the crescent moon. At the bottom of the painting is quiet and peaceful town.
A solid shadowy structure was also painted at the left side between the village and the night sky
which the viewers interpreted as a bush. The colors blue and yellow dominated the painting the
starry sky. The village on the other hand is painted using the colors dark green with hints of blue
and black. The brushstrokes are heavy and playful. The imagery of the clouds in a swirling
motion made a spectacular effect that brings out the beauty of the night. The combination of
colors and how it is used is very unique that no one has ever imitated it successfully.
The painting is an interpretation of his emotions. The brushstrokes are thick and heavy
and the colors are dark that shows intense sense of drama. The village is painted in dark colors
but light illuminated in every window which creates a sense of peace and comfort. The tree
painted in dark hue added mystery and depth to the painting. It’s like it depicts isolation. The
ambiance of the painting is melancholic, yet there’s still a hint of hope. It shows how his mental
illness is taking over his life, but despite having such issue, he still sees a bit of hope, which is
depicted by the combination of blues and yellows in the night sky.
Overall the painting is a success. Its objective is to portray a small village under the night
sky which he successfully showed in the painting. The way the colors are used is magnificent. It
was able to show his emotions and was able to show different elements of arts. It’s like it’s not
the hand that he used in every stroke, but his emotions. He was able to tell people that night
might be all about darkness, but there would still be a ray of hope.
Reflection Paper on the Stage Play of 12-ABM
By: Noelle Angelene V. Bagcal
It’s been a weeks since the play happened. The play is about the story of Porphyria and
John Doe. All the strands on the academic track, including our section performed the said play.
But, every section has their different and own version of the story. Sure, it only happened in a
short period of time, but I was able to learn a lot during those times.
Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes. Now I believe, if you want something to
happen according to what you expect, you have to give the best in practicing. That is one of the
lesson I’ve learned with our play. As a part of the production, I had to admit that our
performance has a lot of loopholes. We spent our time more on slacking off and chatting than
practicing our parts. Additionally, I learned that cooperation and presence of mind are important
when there are performances. Due to lack of cooperation, our performance turned into a mess.
Some are not participating and others are pressuring themselves. If only we had cooperation,
even during our rehearsals, we could have done our play perfectly. But, things don’t always go
our way. Just like what is said in a quote, our life is like a wheel, sometimes we are on top, and
sometimes we are at the bottom. It is only matter of acceptance and maturity. Lastly, I was able
to assimilate that failure doesn’t mean the battle is already done. Neither mistake defines us as a
human. They are only our lessons in our lives and that we should never give up whatever
challenges we’re facing. They are our teachers; they make us grow and help us to be a better
version of ourselves.
It is not only that I learned things that I can use in school, but also it can be applied in real
life and maybe in the future. I have learned that in order to come up with a good performance,
practice, work hard, and cooperate.
What Grade do I Deserve?
By: Noelle Angelene V. Bagcal
Time seems to pass very quickly. We’re already halfway through the semester. It
seriously doesn’t feel like two months had passed since the first day of school. Sure, I’ve gone
through many mental breakdowns and stresses because of school works and activities, but
looking back at them now, I think they are all worth it.
During the past two months, I can guarantee myself that I’ve learned a lot even at that
very short period of time, particularly in English for Academic and Professional Purposes. There
were a lot of writing activities and performance tasks that we had almost every day. I am certain
that I was participative during our classes and discussions. If I were to grade myself, I’d give me
an excellent grade, because I think I deserve it. I’d like to mention that I had always put my best
foot forward in everything that we do, because I know my future depends on how I perform in
school. Not only have I shown that I can do things on my own as a student, but when it comes to
group activities, I always help and lead. I know I had always made sure that I do my job as a
member of the group. I had turned in my assignments and requirements on time, not always
though. The only thing I know I failed is having a complete attendance. Fortunately, I was able
to cope with our lessons even when I missed a couple of classes.
It was never easy for me to go to school and face all the challenges, but I was able to
overcome them all. To sum it all up, I know I did my best as a student. I was able to accomplish
everything that I have to accomplish. I have proven myself as a good student, and that I deserve
an excellent grade.
The Hows of Us: A Movie Review
By: Noelle Angelene V. Bagcal
Another amazing movie with the collaboration of Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla and
Director Cathy Garcia-Molina has been created. The Hows of Us is a 2018 romantic drama film
directed by Cathy Garica-Molina. It is about a couple, Primo and George, who had faced the
battles of their relationship. At first it might have given them so much pain and agony, but in the
end, they were able to defeat the challenges in their relationship.
It is no doubt that the movie became very popular to the country. The storyline is written
magnificently. The casts were able to portray their roles really well. The movie showed us how
love can make a person sacrifice everything he or she has just to be with his/her significant other.
I was amazed of how George was willing to give up her chance of going to the med school just
to help Primo stand from falling. Even when Primo is at his worst days, failing all his promises
and dreams, she never gave up on her. They didn’t give up. It made me very emotional when
George confronted Primo about how tired she is with her life and with their relationship. It is too
realistic that I wasn’t able to stop myself from crying. The two were selfless in different ways.
Both of them went through a lot of personal issues and challenges without knowing each other’s
side. Primo left because he thought it is for the best for George. George, on the other hand, put
all the blame to Primo for ruining her life and for her being selfless just to be with Primo. It’s
also absurd how George put lines to divide the house with Primo, which is obviously made the
movie lighter and funnier, even though it is unlikely to happen in real life.
It’s an eye opener to everyone who had watched the movie. That there will always be a
reason for a person to stay and for a person to leave. It is not always the one who left that should
be blame. A relationship will not be called a relationship if there is only one person. If their
relationship failed, both of them did wrong. You can never call a relationship one if only one of
them is fighting. But despite everything that happened to them, they were still able to get back
together. It’s not also only about their relationship, but it also shows how a family works and
how some families end up being broken because of failed marriage. The movie also showed how
to be independent, and that you should not always expect people to be with you. Sometimes, you
have to learn how to stand on your own because it will always be you that will stay with you in
the end.
