Eating out

Exercise 1
How often do you eat out? Where do you usually go? When you go to a restaurant, which of the
following is the most important to you:
 tasty food
 good service
 romantic / friendly atmosphere
 low prices

Exercise 2
Complete the dialogue in the restaurant. Use the phrases provided.

Waiter: Hello, ............................... ?


Raul: Hi, yes, ............................... a table for two.
Waiter: ............................... a reservation?
Raul: No, we don't.

Waiter: Would you like a drink while you're waiting?

Exercise 3
Read the dialogues again. Find the phrases that mean:

b) someone has informed that they are not coming

Read the dialogues in the restaurant and write the number of each dialogue next to the correct
heading.

c) Ordering a main course
d) Ordering something to drink
e) Ordering the dessert

Kate: Definitely! Could we have another look at the menu, please?
2) Waiter: And what would you like to drink?
Kate: Could we have a bottle of red wine, please?
3) Kate: Good evening. We booked a table for two for 8 o'clock. The name is Smith.
Waiter: Let me check. Yes, the table is ready. This way, please.
4) Kate: Excuse me! Can we have our bill, please?
Waiter: Certainly.
5) Waiter: Are you ready to order?
Kate: Yes, of course.
Waiter: Can I take the starters first? Madam?
Kate: I'd like the cheese tart, please.
6) Waiter: What would you like for the main course?
Kate: I'll have the duck with green peas.

Exercise 5
Put these different foods into the right category. Add more words to each category.

Exercise 6
Use the Internet to find a website for a restaurant in your town with a menu in English. Imagine you
go to this restaurant with a friend. Write a dialogue that could take place there (order drinks,
something to eat and dessert).

I've booked a table for seven o'clock at an excellent Greek restaurant.
