Course Name CA1 - Institutional Corrections
Course Description The course covers an examination of the history, philosophy & objectives of imprisonment & the development of prisons. A
study of institutional agencies in the Philippines, including BJMP which oversees city & municipal jails; provincial jails and
bureau of corrections & their institutions in terms of their structures, management, standards, programs, & services. A critical
analysis of the laws creating these agencies to determine areas for possible improvement.

Program Outcomes 1. Conduct criminological research on crime, crime causation, victims, and offenders to include deviant behavior;
2. Internalize the concepts of human rights and victim welfare;
3. Demonstrate competence and broad understanding in law enforcement administration, public safety, and criminal justice;
4. Utilize criminalistics or forensic science in the investigation and detection of crime;
5. Apply the principles and jurisprudence of criminal law, evidence, and criminal procedure;
6. Ensure offenders’ welfare and development for their re-integration to the community.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes 1. Articulate the historical development of penology;
2. Discuss the concepts of punishment & its purpose;
3. Recognize the role of corrections in the criminal justice system;
4. Demonstrate proper handling & treating criminal offenders and know the standard rules in treating prisoners set by the
United Nation;
5. Explain the classification process through which the rehabilitation program of prisoners is carried out; & know the legal
aspect influencing the Philippine Correctional System.
