Problem Statement
The Production Supervisor of a Rebisco production plant claims that a pack of Rebisco Choco Crackers weighs less
than 32 grams. Out of 50 packets checked, the mean weight of the contents inside weighed 32.7368 grams. We are
here to determine if the net weight of the packets has changed at 99% level of significance (is as accurate as
labeled.) Is there enough evidence to reject the claim of the net weight being lower than what is labeled?
Hypotheses
Claim:
H0 : µ ≥ 32 grams
H1 : µ < 32 grams (Claim)
Level of Significance and Level of Confidence
Level of Confidence: 99%
α: 1% or 0.01
Statistical Test
Z-Test:
Critical Value
Since the Significance Level is at 1%, the Critical Value is at -2.326 since we are executing a left-tailed
test.
Formula Equation
x́ −μ 32.76371429−32
Z= Z=
σ 0.7688993459
√n √ 35
Where :
x́ = sample mean 0.76371429
µ = hypothesized population mean Z=
0.7688993459
= population standard deviation
σ 5.916079783
= standard error of the mean
√n 0.76371429
Z=
0.1299677107
Z=5.87618483
Decision Rule
Basing from the obtained Z-value and the illustrated normal
curve, it is safe to say that the H1 be rejected and the H0 be
accepted.
T-Test:
Critical Value
Since the Significance Level is at 1%, the Critical Value is at -2.624 since we are executing a left-tailed
test.
Formula Equation
x́−μ 32.70067−32
t= t=
s 0.7041712454
√n √15
Where :
x́ = sample mean 0.70067
µ = hypothesized population mean t=
0.7041712454
s = sample standard deviation
s 3.872983346
= standard error of the mean
√n 0.70067
t=
0.1818162338
t=3.85372629
Decision Rule
Basing from the obtained t-value and the illustrated normal
curve, it is safe to say that the H 1 be rejected and the H0 be
accepted.
Answer
There is enough evidence to reject the claim that the net weight is
lower than what is labeled. There is enough evidence to suggest
that the net weights of the products are equal to or greater than
what is labeled.
Conclusion
1.) The initial net weight of the product is 32 grams. No, it is not the same with result that we had
in Performance Check 1.
2.) The manufacturer is not complying with the prescribed label because 9 out of 50 samples were
below 32 grams.
3.) We will reach out to the company and tell them the machines they use for their production line
need to be recalibrated so that their consumers receive what is advertised.
4.) We realized that what is advertised is not always what is provided to the buyer. Companies are not
always transparent with what they advertise. The consumers are being short-changed with these
unethical business practices
