Research Methods for Youth Rehab Center

This document outlines the research methodology for a proposed center for rehabilitation and treatment of drug and alcohol dependent youths. It will use qualitative research methods like interviews with experts, professionals, parents and patients to understand their needs and how facilities should be designed. Case studies of similar rehabilitation centers and health projects will also be conducted. Official government websites and news articles will provide reliable information. Site visits, surveys and documentation will allow examination of the site and gain public input to inform the planning and design of the structure.

CHAPTER III: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1 RESEARCH DESIGN

The feasibility of the proposed project depends on the research techniques that would

be conducted by the researcher. Methods of gathering data and analysis will be done to

provide the most appropriate and efficient results achievable.

3.1.1 Qualitative Research (Interview)

One of the best ways to gather reliable data and information is through

conducting interviews. Interviewing people who are experts, professionals and

more knowledgeable in the field are required to have more idea about the chosen

topic. Insights from teachers, government staffs, parents and patients can also

help in attaining maximum feasibility of the research. This will also help in

gathering data on how the facilities should be designed and planned.

This method may be carried out through setting appointments to the concerned

people or company. Sending out e-mails discussing your intent or your topic

together with the corresponding questions that needs to be answered by your

interviewee is a step needed in order for them to be prepared.

In the case of an interview with a patient from the rehabilitation center, it will

be a casual one. It will be just like an ordinary conversation about their interests,

abilities, needs and other non-offensive topics appropriate for them. This is a

good way of knowing their needs as individuals and the things that need to be

considered while doing the project.

In the case of an interview with a professional, it will be a formal one. The

interviewer will ask about the different programs currently available for the

patients. The schedule of their daily routine will also be asked in order for the

interviewer to plan a building more efficiently.

3.2 RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS

The following are primary research instruments that will be employed during the

research:

3.2.1 Case Studies

The case study method of research seeks to find similar functions and concepts

to the researcher’s project. This method will be the basis on how to improve and

innovate the researcher’s proposed project.

Examples of rehabilitation centers in the Philippines will be researched as well

as similar health projects locally and internationally. The facilities, users,

building materials and structures as well as the process employed on these

similar projects will be studied.

3.2.2 Interview Guide

The information and data that are not found in published materials or Internet

will be acquired through interviews. Facts, statements, and limitations or rules

and guidelines regarding the project will be gathered through the questions that

will be asked by the researcher. In addition, experiences and observation will

also be tackled. This method will also seek clarifications on major issues and

questions of the researcher regarding the project.

3.2.3 News Articles

Aside from books, journals and magazine, it is important to know current

events. News or cases regarding the topic will be gathered from the following

official news websites:

• [Link] ([Link])

• Manila Bulletin ([Link])

• Philippine Star ([Link])

• Rappler ([Link])

• Sunstar ([Link])

• CNN Philippines ([Link])

3.2.4 Official Government Websites

In order to have dependable and reliable information, the researcher will also

gather data from the following government sites:

• Dangerous Drugs Board ([Link])

• Department of Health
([Link])

• Department of Social Welfare and Development ([Link])

• Philippine Statistics Authority ([Link])

• World Health Organization ([Link])

3.2.5 Site Visits, Surveys and Photo Documentation

The personal examination and inspection of the site will help the researcher in

learning more about the site where the project will be established and will

eventually allow the researcher to employ appropriate and valid design

strategies and solutions suitable for the convenience and flow of the users on

the vicinity.

3.2.6 Survey

The use of questionnaires and surveys are to be used to gain
public

participations and responses.
Surveys will then be posted on different social

media accounts and will be used by the researcher in order to gain more ideas

with regards to the planning and designing of the structure.
