For my first blog topic I have decided to focus on the game within the game, Minecraft
speedrunning. Minecraft speedrunning in its simplest form is trying to beat the game as fast as
possible. In order to beat the game you need to complete a series of specific tasks to be able to
reach the final boss and defeat it. Along the way you will have to fight off monsters, gather
resources, travel to different dimensions, and craft verousi items. The difficulty of the speed run
is also affected by which version of minecraft you play. The reason for this is that minecraft adds
new features for each update/version of the game. This means that each version of minecraft
has its own individual rankings per version/update.
Minecraft speed running wasn't always as popular as it is today. The reason minecraft speed
running is so popular is majorly due to one man named Dream. To understand how we got to
this point we need to go back. Minecraft was released over ten years ago and reached its peak
in 2013 according to google trends. After which for the next six years minecraft would slowly
lose popularity until april 2019 when interest in the picked back up again. As minecraft started to
re-emerge as a popular game a new hit youtuber appeared named Dream. Dream was a
minecraft speed runner which meant he tried to bet the game as fast as possible by beating the
final boss. As dreams popularity exploded more people started to get interested in the minecraft
speed running. Currently minecraft's popularity is still rising along with speedrunning and it
doesn't show any signs of stopping.
