The life cycle of a frog has four stages: the egg,


tadpole, young frog, and adult frog stages. The
growing process is known as metamorphosis.
Frogs are amphibians. This means they can live
in water or on land. Before becoming an adult
frog, they only live in water.

The life of a frog begins as a fertilized egg.


Female frogs lay lots of eggs in a pond at one
time. The eggs are in a jelly mass and will hatch
into tadpoles.
Tadpoles looks more like a fish than a frog. It
doesn’t have any legs and has gills that allow it
to breathe underwater. Tadpoles eat plants
and algae from the pond and grows for several
weeks. During this time, tadpoles start to
develop lungs and legs.

Tadpoles begin by growing two hind legs. It can


start leaping instead of swimming! Then it grows
its front legs. Its tail gets shorter and shorter. It
doesn’t need anything else to eat as the
nutrients are stored in its tail!
Once a little bit of its tail is left, the tadpole
becomes a young frog. It can come out of the
water and onto dry land! The tail will eventually
disappear, and the frogs will start to eat insects
instead of plants from the water. After four years,
it becomes an adult frog that is able to lay eggs!
