To connect to the Manheim Network, open Internet Explorer in Windows XP Mode, type 66.6.147.88 in the address bar, log in using your credentials, download and install Juniper Net Connect software, and then connect to the VPN .

Recommended preliminary installs include Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus protection, Java 6 for apps requiring Java, Manheim VPNB2B for VPN access, Websphere Development Studio Client for development purposes, Remedy for resource access, IBM Client Access, and Microsoft Doc viewers for document handling .

To increase memory allocation for Windows XP Mode, ensure the virtual PC is shut down. Navigate to Start Menu -> All Programs -> Windows Virtual PC, right-click Windows XP Mode PC, select Settings, and choose 'Memory' from the left pane to adjust the RAM to a higher value, such as 1024 MB (1 GB). Increasing XP Mode's memory may affect the performance of the host OS by decreasing its available resources .

Critical 'do’s include keeping the security and OS up-to-date, closing Windows XP Mode before shutting down the host OS, and using the host OS for web browsing. 'Don’ts' include installing non-business software in XP Mode and visiting non-Manheim related websites .

An optional hardware configuration includes using a Display Port adapter to run dual external monitors, which is beneficial for development activities like working on Websphere Development Studio Client (WDSC).

Installing Microsoft Security Essentials is crucial because a new Windows XP Mode installation comes without antivirus protection. It's essential to download, install, and update Microsoft Security Essentials to protect the virtual environment from malware and other security threats .

Windows XP Mode functions as a virtual machine managed by Virtual PC, sharing memory, drive storage, and processor resources with the host operating system when integration features are enabled. This allows Windows XP applications to run on a Windows 7 host OS .

To shut down, open the XP Mode, click Ctrl+Alt+Del, and select 'Shut down'. To hibernate, use the Action menu to select 'CLOSE'. For a restart, use the Action menu and select 'RESTART'. By default, closing the session by any means will hibernate it .

Before installing Windows XP Mode, it is necessary to ensure that the machine has Windows 7 Professional edition. The software will not work on PCs/laptops with Windows XP installed .

Some applications compatible with Windows XP, such as Netmeeting and WEBEX, may not function on Windows 7 due to differences in system architecture and compatibility, making Windows XP Mode necessary for such older applications .
