IP Addressing and Network Protocols

This document outlines a homework assignment for a university course on Internet and Web Technology. It contains 5 questions worth a total of 20 marks. The questions cover topics like using multiple connections to download multiple objects and which protocol is best, determining the number of possible subnets and hosts in example network diagrams, analyzing IP addresses and subnets, explaining the process of joining an online classroom over the internet, and selecting efficient subnet masks for a given network diagram. Students are instructed to answer all questions and warned that copying or plagiarism may result in a failing grade.

(However, any attempt to copy or plagiarise may end up with “F” grade.)

1. Discuss the response time of downloading multiple objects using multiple connections. And for this file 2
transfer purpose which protocol we need to use and why we use it?

2. In the network shown in the diagram, how many computers could be in subnet A, B, D and E? Why? 3
Show the calculation.

3. Let’s consider you have following IP addresses. 6

i. [Link]/23
ii. [Link]/24
iii. [Link]/28
iv. [Link]/30

For each of the IP addresses you have to determine the following-

a. What is the address class?
b. How many subnets and how many hosts per subnet?
c. What are the valid subnets?
d. What’s the broadcast address for each subnet?
e. What are the valid hosts?

4. Due to this Coronavirus outbreak, you are lockdown in your home and your regular university classes 6
are interrupting. The teachers are conducting online lessons which run over the internet. Every time
before the starting of the online class your teacher provides a link over Google classroom page to
connect a specific meeting runs over an online application served by [Link] You have
a laptop and a Wi-Fi router with moderate net speed to connect to the internet. However, due to

f. The role of TCP/UDP to connect with the [Link] web server.
g. The HTTP (persistent/non-persistent) communication between your laptop and the web
servers.]

what should be the subnet mask and why?
