SURV AT GUN POSNS


1. Narr 1
a. Sit. You were in the process of delivering VOs to your bty in the Conc
area, in the meanwhile you observed 2 x en ac. Since BL forces are in
defence and en is likely to launch attk. You imed received orders from
your 2IC to disperse and carry nec actions to ward off this threat.
b. Req. As an GPO, carry out assessment of sit vis-à-vis nec ctr measures
against this prevalent air threat.
c. Likely Response
(1) Low flying ac are likely on surv/recce msn or for carrying out deep
strike engagement of BL forces in the process of occupying
defences.
(2) VOs would be given under camouflage nets and be imed completed
by only giving imp / nec details.
(3) Guns to be already dispersed while giving VOs.
(4) After completion of recce, bty vehs / guns would be further distr and
sent in pkts till gun sq.
(5) Air sentries to be nominated once mov.
(6) AA wpns to be emp during mov.
2. Narr 2
a. Sit. While your guns were moving from Conc area to respective gun
depl sqs, you observed 2 x armed heli hovering almost 3-4 kms from your
loc fol by mov from West to East.
b. Req. Since guns during mov are most vuln, therefore being GPO, carry
out nec ctr measures against this threat.
c. Likely Response
(1) Ident of heli friend or foe.
(2) Passage of heli report to higher HQ.
(3) En Armed Heli are on likely msn for engagement of mech elms or
conc of BL forces.
(4) Imed completion of mov.
(5) Air sentries and AA wpns to be emp during mov.
(6) Heli card data to be prep on arr in gun sq.
(7) On reaching gun sq, imed 12.7 mm and MG1A3 would be placed on
AA role.
3. Narr 3
a. Sit. Since en is likely to launch its attk on BL forces, int resources have
revealed likely pt of application (attk loc) of en. Therefore, as per orders
received you brought 1 x gun of your bty for Aslt fire to engage en BOP in
front of FDLs. Moreover, int resources revealed that en has emp its Nag
Man Portable ATGM (MPATGM) with a range of 2.5 km in BOPs. These
MPATGM are a potent threat to guns.

b. Req. Being GPO carry out nec measures to ctr this potent threat to your
gun.
c. Likely Response
(1) SP Gun are likely to accrue benefits of mob (less in action and out
of action time).
(2) Gun will be depl such to be out of range of en ATGMs.
(3) Since Aslt fire is indirect fire, gun will be depl in loc out of en
visibility (defilade firing posn).
(4) Multiple posns be sel for carrying out aslt fire.
4. Narr 4
a. Sit. Long range wpns are most potent assets any force can emp
against its adversary. Since en is launching maj attk on BL forces,
therefore en is utilizing its long rg wpns to engage BL forces before
occupation of def. During your 1 st depl, you received info that 26 Bde HQ
has been hit by en arty rkts and its was further revealed that en used
Pinaka Multi Launch Rocket System for this purpose (rg of 38 - 75 kms).
You were given orders to imed take nec measures against this threat.
b. Req. As GPO, carry out assessment of the sit and put in place nec
measures against this likely threat to your gun posn.
c. Likely Response. En is likely to engage Arty gun posns after
engagement of rear HQs.
(1) Areas with natural cover to be sel and guns platforms, CP and WL
to be deployed to take advantage of natural cover.
(2) Guns should not be deployed in a linear pattern. Adequate
dispersion of guns to be ensured.
(3) Gun pits to be prepared as per standard dimensions to enhance
survivability.
(4) Use of cam nets with local foliage to improve cam of gun posn.
5. Narr 5
a. Sit. You were carrying out engagement of en tgts from your bty posn.
Meanwhile, you received orders from Regt HQ that info received that en
Cartosat-2f remote sensing satellite having high image resolution
capability is likely to pass over the depl area from 1000-1100 hrs.
b. Req. Being GPO, carry out nec actions to avoid detection of your gun
posn by en satellite.
c. Likely Response
(1) Cam and clt of gun posn should be ensured.
(2) Areas with natural cover to be sel and guns platforms, CP and WL
to be deployed to take advantage of natural cover.
(3) No maj movement should be undertaken during the time bkt of
satellite pass.

a. Sit. While at your bty posn, you observed an utility heli moving from
west to east at a dist of 3 km from en side. You imed realized that before
your occupation of gun posn, you have already received threat of likely
emp of en SFs / Para tps against HQs/ gun posns.
b. Req. Being GPO of your bty, carry out nec measures to ctr this imminent
threat to your gun posn.
c. Likely Response
(1) Prior rehearsal of Open action drill in Conc area.
(2) Posting of local OPs and air sentries to alert regarding en actions.
(3) Siting of local def wpns according to the terrain, visualization of
threat and apchs (gr and aerial) ident.
(4) Ident of heli either friend or foe.
(5) Passage of heli report to Regt HQ.
(6) Prep carried out by GPO for open action.
(7) Anti heli/ para borne force be nominated by GPO incl pers, wpns
and vehs.
(8) Sel of likely LZs as Local DFs and coord with other arty FUs for
their engagement.
(9) Passing report of en forces to RHQ.
7. Narr 7
a. Sit. After successful engagement of en tgts, you gave rest to your gun
dets. Meanwhile at 1100 hrs, you received info from one of your OPs that
they have observed some suspicious activity of some indls with SAs mov
in likely dir of your gun posn. The same info was reported earlier at 1000
hrs by tps in FDLs. Later at 1130 hrs, your local OP at gun posn reported
you regarding en apch.
b. Req. Being GPO of your bty, carry out assessment of sit and nec
measures to ward off this threat to your gun posn.
c. Likely Response
(1) Prior rehearsal of Open action drill in Conc area.
(2) Prep guns for open action.
(3) Passing report of en forces to RHQ.
(4) Posting of local OPs and air sentries to alert regarding en actions.
(5) Siting of local def wpns according to the terrain, visualization of

8. Narr 8
a. Sit. Since en is launching its attk, therefore en is emp all aval assets
against BL forces. In the process of providing fire sp, you observed an en
UAV at an high altitude over your gun posn mov in east to west dir.
b. Req. Give your assessment of sit and carry out nec measures against
this UAV threat.
c. Likely Response
(1) Imed taking cover once UAV observed.

(2) UAV would not be fired upon unless it fires upon the gun posn.
(3) Info Regt HQ on imed basis about UAV mov details to incl duration
of flight, type of UAV observed, dir of mov etc.
9. Narr 9
a. Sit. After complete day firing / engagement of tgts by your bty, BL
forces were partially successful to repulse en attk. However, info received
from tps in FDLs that few mech elms were seen to have dispersed in the
area. Before sunset at 1700 hrs, local OP of your gun posn info you of a
tank moving head on towards your gun posn along with 2 x APCs at
speed of 20km/h.
b. Req. As GPO, carry out assessment of the sit and put in place nec
measures against this imminent threat.
c. Likely Response. After engagement at FDLs, en tk is likely in search of
some lucrative tgt.
(1) Rehearsing Anti tk drills in conc area prior to occupation of gun
posn.
(2) Distr of area into anti tk secs.
(3) Ensure No.1s are conversant with their anti tk secs as well as drill
for anti tk engagement.
(4) Engage tk as per sit dictates.
(5) Using smoke to extricate guns from gun posn.
10. Narr 10
a. Sit. During conduct of your fire, you received info from your regt HQ
that P bty ex 214 Fd Regt had been subj to en CB resulting in complete
damage to 1 x gun and sights damage of 2 x guns. En is utilizing its newly
inducted ANTPQ-37 radars for carrying out CB (range of 30 kms). After
receiving subj info, you were in the process of assessing the sit for ctr
measures against CB, meanwhile you start receiving CB at area (map sq)
just adjacent to your gun posn.
b. Req. As GPO, carry out assessment of the sit and put in place nec
measures against CB.
c. Likely Response
(1) Guns should not be deployed in a linear pattern. Adequate
dispersion of guns to be ensured.
(2) Gun pits to be prepared as per standard dimensions to enhance
survivability.
(3) Use of Temp gun posns for regn of tgt and carrying out HF.
(4) RHQ should ensure change of gun sq with time pd to avoid CB.
11. Narr 11 (Differ type of gun posn)
a. Sit. You were in the process of delivering VOs to your bty in the Conc
area, in the meanwhile you observed 2 x en ac having low level flying.
Since BL forces are in defence and en is likely to launch attk. You imed

received orders from your 2IC to disperse and carry nec actions to ward
off this threat.
b. Req. As an GPO, carry out assessment of sit vis-à-vis nec ctr measures
against this prevalent air threat.
c. Likely Response

received orders from your 2IC to disperse and carry nec actions to ward
off this threat.
b. Req. As an GPO, carry out assessment of sit vis-à-vis nec ctr measures
against this prevalent air threat.
c. Likely Response
(1) Low flying ac are likely on surv/recce msn or for carrying out deep
strike engagement of BL forces in the process of occupying
defences.
(2) VOs would be given under camouflage nets and be imed completed

13. Narr 13 (Signature mgmt.)
a. Sit. While you were in process of occupation of gun posn at 0700 hrs,
you observed a heli mov fwd towards FDLs. Later, at 1030 hrs, the same
heli was observed mov bk from FDLs. At 1130 hrs, you received call from
from Regt HQ where Adjt info you that subj heli was of GOC visiting
defences. However, GOC observed certain grey areas w.r.t while flying
above your gun posn.
(1) Guns shining parts were visible from air.
(2) Gun pits can easily be ident from longer dist.

(3) Tracks used for occupation of gun posn were still visible.
(4) Gun dets were mov freely within gun sq.
(5) No measures were carried out to reduce Signature of gun posn.
b. Req. Adjt asked you to address all relevant pts mentioned above and
report completion to him by 1400 hrs. As GPO, carry out assessment of sit
vis-à-vis nec actions to address a/m pts.
c. Likely Response
(1) Low flying ac are likely on surv/recce msn or for carrying out deep
strike engagement of BL forces in the process of occupying
defences.
(2) VOs would be given under camouflage nets and be imed completed
