NATIONAL SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM
Reflection Paper
The National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001, also known as
Republic Act No. 9163, affirms the government's primary responsibility to serve and defend its
citizens. The government may oblige each citizen to perform personal, military, or civil service
in order to fulfill their obligation to protect the security of the State, which is the responsibility
of all citizens. While receiving training in any of its three program components, the NSTP
program promotes the development of the youth's physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, and
social well-being as well as defense readiness and service ethics.

At first, I thought that doing NSTP activities is a hindrance in my rest. Sometimes, I

even think that this subject is unnecessary for my chosen course in college. I am a first-year
BSA Student at Camarines Norte State College. As we all know, being an accountant is tiring
because they always analyze and audit financial statements. I’ve pondered what would NSTP’s
role in my journey as a CPA. On the very first day of our field immersion activity, I feel like I’m
too exhausted even though I’m not working on my task. Until I realized what values I’m
lacking. It’s the passion that is leaving my existence. After that tiring activity, what I see is the
people’s smiles that make my unlit passion to be rekindled. The bright smiles of the people
make my exhaustion leave my senses. Moreover, the term “volunteerism” is the very core of my
learnings in this 10-week NSTP program.

After doing the activities under NSTP, I've come to understand the value of
volunteering and how it enhances all of our lives. I came to the realization that helping
someone also meant improving myself since when we participate in charitable activities, we
step outside of our comfort zone. It is rewarding to experience new things and get new
knowledge from others. Not only does volunteering emphasize the things we share, but it also
serves as a powerful reminder to be grateful for what we already have and to be content with
what we have. As a result, volunteering for any charitable endeavor will encourage us to share
ourselves with others so that we might benefit from their experiences.

The National Service Training Program assists me as a student and citizen of the
Philippines in a way that this subject gives me knowledge that I can use to contribute to the
nation's progress and it gave me an overview of how important my community is. Finally, this
subject definitely helps me to develop my character and it serves as my training ground for me
to be able to contribute my knowledge and skills to our community. By comprehending this, we
can be good citizens and apply the core values in our country. Thus, in a broader sense, NSTP
acts as a doorway to our prosperity and the progress of our country in addition to helping us
become an instrument that aids in the country's advancement and peace.
