Radio Roulette: A Practitioner's Guide

This document provides the rules for playing Radio Roulette, a divination practice where participants listen to the radio and interpret songs based on their order of selection. The rules establish that: 1) Radio Roulette relies on interpreting songs heard on a local radio station in Kingston, ON as messages from infallible Radio Roulette Gods. 2) Sessions are limited to once per day and require listening as a group to a single radio station without changing stations or being disconnected from the broadcast. 3) Participants secretly choose numbers between 1-10 and interpret the songs playing in order of their numbers as predictions for the next 24 hours. 4) The meaning of the song after the last number is intended as

RADIO ROULETTE A Handbook for Practitioners - 1st Edition (Extended) July 12, 2011

Developed by: Daniel J. Beals [Link] [Link] Co-Developed by: Amanda J. Hudson [Link] [Link] Who are the Faithful?: Check out #RadioRoulette or #RRG on Twitter, or the Radio Roulette fan page on Facebook to find out! FOREWARD: Forecasting. Fortune Telling. Divination. Since the dawn of time, men and women have looked into the great beyond for signs and portents of their future. While no method of prediction is foolproof and unassailable, in March 2010 came the discovery of the Radio Roulette Gods [RRG]. Their message delivered through the airwaves is now widely known as an uncannily accurate method of divining the future. The most common use of Radio Roulette is to predict the mood, tone, action or outcome of the immediate future (24 hr window) through the enjoyment of popular music/lyrics. Radio Roulette is typically practised by a group of 2 or more 'Practitioners' who are looking for insight into the coming day or evening. This makes Radio Roulette especially popular at house parties, election campaign offices, or on Wall/Bay Street. Below you will find the First Edition of the rules for using the infallible will of the Radio Roulette Gods to divine your future. A huge thanks goes out to Amanda J. Hudson for her unshakeable faith and humanitarian willingness to co-develop these rules for the good of all humanity.

THE RULES: 0. The Radio Roulette Gods [RRG] are Infallible. This is the most important article of faith for any Radio Roulette practitioner. Divining the precise message of a given song may be difficult, but it is crucial to recognize that any confusion or misunderstanding is due to the inherently flawed nature of the listener and NOT the RRG. Rule of Thumb: If your Radio Roulette song doesn't seem to fit your future, you simply did not listen closely enough. 1. Radio Roulette may only be played once per day. This 24-hour period starts at 12AM. It is important to recognize that the Radio Roulette Gods operate on the honour system. Their guidance is a gift to be respected and not abused. For this reason, it is asking far too much for them to impart their divine wisdom to a group of individuals more than once a day. Rule of Thumb: The first session in a 24-hour period is the only valid session. 2. In Kingston, ON [#ygk] Radio Roulette must be practised while listening to 98.9 The Drive This rule is significant due to the role of The Drive [[Link]] as a proven Radio Roulette forum. While other radio stations may also prove to be in tune with the will of the RRG, care should be used in choosing a station. Alternative/Indy stations are highly recommended. Relying on Dance or Country stations is especially dangerous, as there is little variety to be found there. Rule of Thumb: Test other stations for accuracy. 3. Radio Roulette should be practised in a group. Due to the inhuman depth and scope of Radio Roulette, it is not recommended to play alone. This is inherently selfish behaviour that may be damaging for an individual who will be forced to bear the burden of his/her future alone. Multiple practitioners are also helpful for suggesting song meanings and looking up obscure song titles, bands or lyrics. Rule of Thumb: Radio Roulette should be shared for maximum benefit. 4. The session begins when practitioners choose their RR number while the radio is playing. If possible, all committed practitioners must choose a number during the same song. This song is known as SONG ZERO. There may be some leeway for choice during station commentary/advertising, but without a Song Zero, it is impossible to rule on Song #1. Rule of Thumb: Choices made outside of Song Zero are invalid. 5. Always pick the first number that comes to mind. The will of the RRG can only be channelled by a lucid and uncultivated mind. Treating Radio Roulette like a game of strategy is an insult to the RRG. However, practitioners should bear in mind that Radio Roulette requires a relatively uninterrupted listening session. Rule of Thumb: Do not choose a number higher than 10, based on the size of your group. 6. Radio Roulette numbers are chosen on a First-Come First-Served basis.

It is important to recognize that a proper Radio Roulette session has no official picking order. Due to the lack of strategy inherent in the practise, it is assumed that the first choice goes to the first practitioner who has a number come to mind. Such is the will of the RRG. Rule of Thumb: In the case of a contested chosen number (chosen at roughly the same time), the group may be forced to decide who spoke first and with the greatest conviction. 7. Song 1 is the first song sampled from beginning to end. After listening to Song 1 to completion, the count continues with each ensuing song. However, it should be noted that these songs don't have to be listened to intently as long as the count is accurate up to the point of the chosen numbers. Rule of Thumb: One trustworthy practitioner should volunteer or be chosen to keep track of the song progression. 8. If for whatever reason practitioners are cut off from the radio (power outage, lost signal, natural disaster, smoke/bathroom break, unconsciousness), the count shall continue starting with the next complete song. If cut off from the radio, all practitioners should remember to stay calm and reassure themselves that the divine guidance of RRG accounts for all such events. Rule of Thumb: Reestablish the last counted song and start at the beginning of the next song. Do NOT change radio stations (See Rule 9). 9. Do not change radio stations during a Radio Roulette session. Changing radio stations for any reason will disable the accuracy of all ensuing forecasts in a session. Radio Roulette requires continuity and care to ensure accurate forecasting. Rule of Thumb: If a station's signal is lost due to travel, the session may only continue when back in range of the station. If this is impossible, all unheard choices are forfeit and were never meant to be heard. 10. The song directly after the last picked song is dedicated to all practitioners. The meaning of this song will probably be the most difficult to discern due to the number of practitioners and variety of personal experiences. Rule of Thumb: The sharing of this song should be considered a gift of thanks to the RRG for their divine guidance and a celebration of the past session. OPTIONAL RULES AND VARIANTS: Warning: These optional rules are still largely untested and/or have been judged as too dangerous or difficult for the novice practitioner. Russian Radio Roulette Radio roulette played alone is extremely dangerous and unpredictable. Marathon Radio Roulette -Any session featuring choices greater than 10 should be considered a marathon session, and is subject to greater care and scrutiny.
