“REFLECTION PAPER“
We all know that as a college student, we have various subjects to take, referring to both
minor and major subjects. As a student, the course I am enrolled in, is under the Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration major in Human Resources Management. Initially, this wasn't
the course I chose; I had a different one in my mind since elementary school. However, even
though I didn't get my first choice, I am happy with the course I am taking now. As time goes by,
I am growing to love this course. As a third-year college student, we have a subject called Training
and Development, which is one of our majors. When I heard about this subject during the
enrollment for the first semester of my third year, my initial thoughts, being an HR student, were
based on what I had heard and known about this field. In the future, those working in HR are the
ones responsible for hiring applicants, conducting interviews, training, essentially screening and
preparing suitable and acceptable employees; they are also responsible for orientation. Considering
that we have a subject on Training and Development, the first thing that crossed my mind was that
this training is where an employee's knowledge is sharpened. It is here that they learn how to
perform their assigned tasks effectively. In Training and Development, the word "develop" itself
made me think that this is where capabilities are enhanced, not just in one's forte but also where
other skills and talents can be brought out and applied to one's assigned work. The subject may
also provide a human resources perspective, exploring the role of training and development in
fostering employee growth and enhancing organizational effectiveness.
Upon hearing about this subject, yes, it really meets my expectations based on my initial
ideas and thoughts about it. As we discuss and delve into this subject, it becomes evident that it
goes beyond my existing knowledge. It is much broader, and there is a lot of information to learn
from this subject. While I initially understood it, to be related to recruitment and the enhancement
of knowledge and skills, it appears that it encompasses much more. There are numerous processes
and a lot of knowledge to acquire, suggesting that the learnings from this subject can be valuable
for our future, extending beyond the immediate context of recruitment and skill enhancement. In
our discussions of this subject, our subject teacher is one of the reasons why we should better
understand the important matters we are tackling here. Because of her discussions, she is
exceptionally skilled at delivering the topics we discuss in a more organized manner, and we truly
comprehend them. As I delve into the subject of Training and Development during my third year
as a Human Resources Management Student I've come to recognize the pivotal role that training
plays in honing an employee's knowledge and boosting their capabilities. This understanding
resonates seamlessly with the typical objectives of a Training and Development course. What's
fascinating is that this subject extends beyond the immediate realms of recruitment and skill
enhancement. It goes deeper into cultivating employee growth and contributing to the overall
effectiveness of an organization. This realization has given me a profound appreciation for the
subject. In essence, my reflections convey that Training and Development aligns remarkably well
with my expectations. It offers valuable insights into the broader spectrum of HR, turning it into a
significant and relevant aspect of my academic journey. As I find myself growing fonder of my
chosen course, it's evident that my perspective has undergone a positive evolution, indicating a
fulfilling and enriching experience in my academic pursuits.
Overall, I've truly learned a lot, and this subject has been immensely helpful for us. I've
gained insights into how and what truly encompasses this field. It's not just about enhancing skills
or merely training employees; it's about performing in a more professional manner in your work.
I've learned how to create a training plan, which is a significant skill we'll carry with us as we enter
the corporate world. It also guides me in developing both knowledge and skills in a multifaceted
manner. I've gained the ability to effectively assess employee training needs, showcasing a
nuanced understanding of individual requirements within an organizational context. The emphasis
on evaluating both the efficiency and effectiveness of these programs has underscored the
importance of a comprehensive and results-oriented approach. I've not only gained theoretical
insights into Training and Development but have also cultivated practical skills crucial for
contributing meaningfully to enhancing employee capabilities within a business setting. The
course has successfully prepared me for the real-world application of training and development
principles, ensuring that I am well-equipped to navigate the complexities of this crucial aspect of
human resources. I won't forget what Ma'am said, leaving us with a question to answer about what
we have learned in this subject— the end-to-end process of training and development: assessment,
planning, implementation, and evaluation. I learned a lot and enjoyed this subject.
